ANATOMY OF A FALL
Added 2023-11-10 17:45:07 +0000 UTCI took people's advice on here and decided to give this a watch. While I find some things about it intriguing...I also really struggled with the editing, and aspects of the writing. I dunno. Still mulling it over. Who has seen it? Am I alone in feeling that?

I feel 100% the same way about “Anatomy of a Fall.” Some fine ideas but it got labored and convoluted. Was way too long. And they never addressed a potential murder weapon. It was conveniently left out.

2024-02-07 14:35:36 +0000 UTCJust watched your review and so I guess I gotta be agreeable about Drive My Car which didn't do much for me, though there were interesting machinations in play. Remember how the protagonist insists his actors read the text without emotion? I felt like that the real life director did the same thing with his film actors, really letting the text breath and all. Whenever Murakami's text was being read in the film, it was fascinating indeed, but the rest of the time nothing was happening. Everybody just went about looking vaguely concerned. So maybe plays are text based, and movies are visually oriented, and the director found himself outside his medium.

2023-11-12 23:57:43 +0000 UTCI did enjoy season 1 better but I have to admit I still really liked season 2 in a campy sort of way. Don’t get me wrong - there are plenty of flaws (random new character Elliott, Nate & Cassie’s sudden relationship, etc.) but I think Sam Levinson did an excellent job of continuing Nate and Jules’ dynamic (which was the most interesting one for me) with subtle moments peppered throughout s2. I won’t spoil too much (for others here) but Jules being trans and Nate’s “family history” make it an interesting dynamic; Maddy & Cassie are like his playtoys in a more traditional-society-friendly subsitute for his feelings for Jules. Also, Idk if you watched it, but the special episode with Rue and Ali in the diner made me tear up. The whole episode was just them talking about life and it was powerful. I loved Fez being more prominent in s2, RIP Angus :-(

2023-11-11 22:07:38 +0000 UTCThe partially blind boy represents us all. No one sees everything. Only what’s in our peripheral. Even in films we see only what is given by the film makers.the ending pays off like a blind spot as well.

2023-11-10 23:33:40 +0000 UTCHaven’t seen it. Off-topic but I just binged Euphoria season 1 & 2 over the course of three days…so mentally I can’t think about anything else for a little while lol. I liked it a lot but damn it was messy.

2023-11-10 20:30:19 +0000 UTCOne last thing: the boy's blindness is symbolic of a child's blindness to the inner workings of their parents' lives. It's often an essential part of growing up, realizing how little you understood your parents.

2023-11-10 20:19:53 +0000 UTCI thought it was excellent. For me the story unfolded principally through understanding the husband's character. His bitterness over the life he has chosen, to be a dog who lives only for others, permeates the wife and the child powerfully by the story's end. It's interesting to me how mild the wife is, yet the husband views her as his antagonist. She's so levelheaded, self-content and calm, and he's stuck 'white knighting', and it's the perfect recipe for toxicity between two people who are trying their best. I'm sure such strife can be found destroying relationships all across the world everyday, though the outcomes are rarely so dramatic. Thanks for taking my recommendation. I feel like I've only been disagreeable lately... I will really let my dog qualities shine through in my next post, promise.

2023-11-10 20:07:03 +0000 UTCLiked it fine, didn’t love it. Agree that it was hurt by turning into a sort of simple courtroom drama, complete with a late-stage twist. Also, I know withholding info is the point — we’re asked to judge whether this woman is a killer without clear evidence — but it becomes a little too cute at times. We get a vivid scene of their argument, but the camera cuts when it becomes physical. “But that’s all the info the jury has to go on!” Yes, I get it. But if guessing if she’s guilty or innocent is the whole point, it doesn’t seem like much of a point. Good performances, very watchable, but surprised that it’s been so praised.

2023-11-10 18:38:57 +0000 UTCI enjoyed the performances a lot, and I actually like the editing, especially when they were playing out different scenarios of the fall. Also, the way they cut they reactions to the audio recording of the argument was cool. But I wish the screenplay was more ambiguous, and that the aftermath of the verdict made me feel more anxious about truth and justice. That would’ve gotten under my skin more.

2023-11-10 18:38:24 +0000 UTCIt reminded me of Drive My Car a lot. So far as how I struggled with it. It lost a lot of traction for me, by drowning us in the procedural aspects of courtroom drama, rather than enhancing the emotions.

2023-11-10 18:16:04 +0000 UTCYou’re not alone. I was underwhelmed by it too, I was curious to see what you thought of it. The movie had some things to say about the complexities of relationships, but I just didn’t find it that fascinating.
