What To See

There will be a lot of movies coming out in the next couple of months. I will try and see as many as I can. But I may ask you guys at certain points which ones you think I should see first, as part of my consideration. May not necessarily go with the ones you guys pick, but it will be nice just to get a sense of what you guys are most interested in, and what you would be most interested in seeing a review from me on. So look for some polls here and there soon. Hope you guys are well.

It’s not a new film, but if you enjoy some great noir, I highly recommend 2015’s Man From Reno. https://www.imdb.com/title/tt2287170/?ref_=ext_shr_lnk

I hope so!

Yeah, Mann loves his sleek imagery, and close-ups of chrome fit into that. And yeah, it is sad because the truth is, Mann hasn’t made a good film in 20 years, since Collateral. Miami Vice, Public Enemies, and Blackhat have their cults, admirers, and champions, but I am not one of them, and I’m a huge fan of his. But Ferrari is being touted as a return to form for him, so that makes me all the more eager to see it.

I see Mann hasn't lost his obsession with sleek vehicles. Hopefully it turns out good. It's sad when the trailer has to reference films from the previous century to remind audiences what a great director he is.

I admit...I never saw the first one, other than the iconic scenes.

For your consideration: Dream Scenario (dir. by Kristoffer Borgli)—Nov. 10 Nic Cage at his best! Maestro (dir. by Bradley Cooper)—limited release Nov. 22; on Netflix Dec 20 Wouldn’t it be something if Lydia Tár’s name came up? Napoleon (dir. by Ridley Scott)—Nov. 22 Joaquin Phoenix suffering from Little Man Syndrome? Sign me up! Poor Things (dir. by Yorgos Lanthimos)—Dec. 8 Supposedly one of the films of the year. All I know is Yorgos is awesome. Dogtooth is one of my faves. The Zone of Interest (dir. by Jonathan Glazer)—limited release Dec. 15 Supposedly another film of the year. Deals with Rudolf Höss and family as they live next to the site that he runs: Auschwitz. Ferrari (dir. by Michael Mann)—Dec. 25 The Mann is back in form. I’ve got high hopes.

I wasn't planning a review for this week. I'll be cramming some in for Thanksgiving week.

I will try and catch it when I have time.

Cool. I've been in a sports mood lately. Congratulations on your Rangers winning their first World Series ever. It was a good series even though it was short lived. I'm jealous because my Tigers have yet to win in my lifetime and were so close in my teenage years only to shit the bed constantly in the postseason and eventually trade away all their superstars for a bunch of busts becoming one of the worst teams of recent years. Meanwhile, your team went from a 100+ loss season only two years ago to winning it all just like that. All Detroit teams have been awful since the mid 2010s and it's great to see my Red Wings and very surprisingly the Lions starting to change that. My childhood heroes weren't Marvel or DC characters, they were the Red Wings and to a lesser extent the Tigers.

Really enjoyed what you've been covering lately so I say you have a good instinct. Curious if you're gonna cover The Marvels this weekend or if this gives you time to catch up with something like Anatomy of a Fall.

Tyler Shobe

Will you get around to seeing Anatomy of a Fall?

I’m excited to check out Eli Roth’s Thanksgiving myself.
