Saw it when I was 9 or 10 which my parents weren't happy about because of the language and violence.

Definitely agree with your point about hidden humor in The Shining. Ive had a similar experience through multiple rewatches of 2001. Kubricks sense of humor can be subtle even in his "serious" films.

As an easily impressionable high schooler, I convinced my family to see Drag Me to Hell in the theater cause I loved those kinds of horror films. I remember having a blast but then I slowly forgot it existed until recently and I still tend to forget about it. Also, funny you say The Ring scared you as a kid because it scared me too but it was from the Ring scenes in Scary Movie 3 and not the actual movie which I never saw. Even though it's an over the top comedy, some of those images like the girl in the tv freaked me out which makes me glad I didn't see the actual film because I could only imagine how traumatized I probably would've been.

I was an extremely type A person when I was a kid, so Mike throwing away the map was the scariest part of Blair Witch Project for me lol
