Marcel the Shell with Shoes On
Added 2023-08-11 02:24:14 +0000 UTCHas anyone seen this film? I saw it a few weeks ago and I absolutely adored the premise. And judging by the first 15-20 minutes of the film, I could see it being a true masterpiece in the right hands. But goddamn....it really fell apart. And it really pissed me off. Mainly because I liked the opening so much. Great characters and performances. But it really lost its way in act 2 and 3 for me. A shame. Definitely would've worked much better as a short film in the hands of these writers. And it could be incredibly successful at that.

2023-08-11 05:57:54 +0000 UTCyeah for sure fun and heartwarming. I just felt like it was really genuine at the opening, and it didnt know how to keep anything in focus for three acts. I agree the media stuff didnt work. We lose the family thread in there, and the way it was resolved in the end was maybe the worst thing about it. The media frenzy stuff was annoying because it didnt tie into anything else in the film. It was just there to show the result of fame, and not in a believable or interesting way either. But then it just kinda falls off after that. We lost a lot of the simplicity of the story through this need to make things bigger with the help of a few celebrity connections too. And the ending had no clue how to sum it all up, and it kinda kept faking itself out. I dunno...I suppose I wanted it to be good because I thought the characters were just wonderful. Memorable and worthy of a good story. But ya know, just an opinion. My friend watched it with me, and while he agrees with my problems, he liked it.

Funnily my fiance absolutely hated the trailer for the movie and any time I would bring up Marcel, she got visibly annoyed. She was immune to his charms and wanted to just punt his little ass across the yard.

I guess the stuff with the documentarian guy's life and the media frenzy was kind annoying, and Marcel kind of has the same reaction to stuff over and over, but as a whole I thought it was fun and heartwarming. Maybe I just in the mood for something wholesome and fell for it. idk
