Haha. I can relate somewhat but not as much as a lot of people. My parents were artists to begin with so they are more open minded than a lot of parents, and tend to gravitate more to artistic films, within certain limits of course. I won't be showing them a Gaspar Noe film anytime soon as an example. But they can usually be fairly cool with stuff. Both my parents enjoyed Hereditary, I believe.

That's such a mom thing to say. XD

Haha it's so interesting how people can be put off by all kinds of artsy films and such...yet the moment Godfather or Goodfellas comes on, they suddenly have all the taste. xD

THat's cool that you got her to see a movie that really affected her.

Funny. My mother isn't into movies and would never be interested in seeing anything brutal no matter how well made it is. I took her to see To Kill a Mockingbird when it was at a one night only screening and she couldn't believe it when Scout and Jem were attacked by Bob Ewell at the end. I didn't tell her anything specific about the plot so she was surprised by the racial slurs and especially that scene. She was talking about it to my dad that night like she witnessed a real crime. She did love the movie, though. I love my parents to death but cinema is not their thing.

My moms into YA novel stuff like Divergent, Hunger Games, Twilight etc. so she generally would not enjoy anything that’s rated R. Although she recently saw Gone Girl and enjoyed it, just didn’t care for the Neal Patrick Harris’s death scene… Lol. The only time she looses up is usually mob movies like first two Godfathers and the Irishman. So she has her moments… Lol

What makes this even funnier, I remember seeing uncut gems in theaters and at the end the movie, a woman screamed “I need to take a shower!!”

Whenever I show my mom something she thinks is too weird for her that she didn't like but doesn't want to tell me she didn't like, she'll say "That's different" and then a long pause.

My mom has long thought me demented for my taste in films. Yet she always looks to me to find her a good movie to watch whenever I go to her house. I once got her to watch Hereditary, told her it was a family drama (she doesn’t like horror). She stopped trusting me for movies a good long while after that. To which I say…fair enough. In my defense, I honestly thought she’d enjoy it because the film is so well-made and Toni Collette is so good in it. I didn’t think she’d lose her head too over what happens. Oh well, live and learn. She’ll write me back into her will eventually.
