Added 2023-03-24 06:07:46 +0000 UTCYa'll...I saw my first Scream movie, ever. Yes, yes....I know. But I was roped into seeing the latest Scream entry with a friend in theaters, who coincidentally, had never seen a Scream film before either. So irony-laden that it destroys any tension, as is the meta formula these days. But didn't hate it as much as I thought. I suppose you guys will have to fill me in on all that I have missed. (Of course I have seen the iconic opening scene from the original, but up until today, that was the extent of my knowledge).

Commenting a bit late, but this is my exact ranking too!

2023-04-14 17:49:36 +0000 UTCI never saw that film all the way through, but I kinda want to. It might be the kind of guilty pleasure I need in my life. Fosse films are works of art. I wouldnt expect Burlesque to be anything other than what it was meant to be.

2023-04-01 23:54:25 +0000 UTCA few years ago I saw the film burlesque. I was very disappointed. I was hoping for a Fosse style musical but it had none of darkness of his films. Does anyone else feel the same way?

2023-03-26 09:05:27 +0000 UTCI gotta be honest...it's one that's been on my list, and I haven't gotten to it. Maybe that's one I should do soon.

2023-03-26 09:05:04 +0000 UTCIs there any love for the film "panic in needle park". It's interesting for two reasons. The depiction of drug addiction and because it's one of Pacino's early films

2023-03-25 00:14:05 +0000 UTCIt would be interesting to see you watch and review the whole series, from a non-fan perspective. The first two still hold up as excellent blends of horror and comedy, the third probably leans too far into the comedy to be successful, but the fourth pulls it back and is a strong continuation. I haven't watched 5 or 6 yet as I feel I need to rewatch the first four, as this franchise is constantly bringing back minor characters and introducing relatives of dead characters, so it works best when the earlier entries are fresh in your mind.

2023-03-24 19:18:54 +0000 UTCMy eyes totally glazed over the words "my first Scream movie" and read it as "the first Scream movie." My mistake.

2023-03-24 18:30:20 +0000 UTCThat's sort of what I assumed, but I still am curious about the rest of the film.

2023-03-24 18:22:20 +0000 UTCI'm talking about the most recent one, as it's the only one I've seen. I assume the first one is much better.

2023-03-24 18:21:41 +0000 UTCYeah I definitely feel that I should now.

2023-03-24 18:20:44 +0000 UTCScream is interesting because the first one is a pretty undisputed classic, and then the sequels each have their own strengths and weaknesses. I re-watched them all before seeing VI and it’s hard to be meta in a fresh way. The 4th one was able to accomplish that pretty well though. My personal ranking movies best to worst I’d say 1,4,2,6,5,3

2023-03-24 14:01:38 +0000 UTCTotally agree with you about the meta-obsession of the latest one. The first film finds a really good blend of horror and witty humor though, so I’d definitely check it out.

2023-03-24 13:10:31 +0000 UTCIt's in my top 3 horror movies. I wholeheartedly disagree that it lacks tension cause I'm always struck by how dangerous Ghostface feels. I think the movie knows when to subvert and when to play into tropes in a way that keeps the audience on their toes. I also just love the performances from the main cast with a special gold star for Matthew Lillard who arguably pushes it too far but I'm also just in love with what he's doing here. Maybe I just saw it at the right age first but for me, my love for it has grown and grown every time I see it. I don't think it's all that ironic as much as it's lovingly pays ode to one of horrors misunderstood subgenres.

2023-03-24 09:46:18 +0000 UTCI have only seen the parody of scream 'scary movie ' it's a very funny comedy

2023-03-24 07:51:21 +0000 UTCI've only seen the original and it's hilarious. Wes Craven knew the details of slasher films better than any horror director and he nailed the observations of the stupid cliches and contrivances they all had. I still know the three rules of surviving a horror film to this day. No sex, no drugs or alcohol, and never say "I'll be right back." Also, Stu always has me howling with his actor chewing the scenery especially during the climax. Even though it's been aped to death even with it's neverending sequels, there's still a discipline and balance to the original that holds it above the crowd.

2023-03-24 07:09:28 +0000 UTCoooo, this is prob my favorite slasher franchise, I just get a huge kick out of the metacinematic fun because it’s self-aware without being cynical. I think the first 2 are the best ones. The third is cool, but the ending sucks. The fourth is super cool but the lighting is weird. I’m glad you had fun :) I did too, but I’m also kinda sad you started with this one. A big reason I enjoyed 5 and 6 is because they’re clearly made by people who love what I love about the franchise.

2023-03-24 06:30:33 +0000 UTCI’ll just say this for now…nothing, in any of the Scream movies, lives up to the opening scene of the original. It almost should have been a short film in of itself. The smartest, savviest move they ever did was have the biggest name in the cast (at the time) play a character that gets brutally murdered in the first 10 minutes. It makes it all the more shocking. So far as I know, all credit goes to Drew Barrymore for that decision. It sure as hell doesn’t seem like something Bob Weinstein would come up with.
