Agree. Meryl Streep. She is often mannered and witchy. I have to concede that she is very good at doing comedies. She is great in death becomes her and post card from the edge. It's a shame that she concentrates on dramas

2023-03-21 06:28:25 +0000 UTCSandra Bullock. I don’t think I’ve ever really been impressed by anything that I’ve seen her in. I suppose I get why she’s a star: there’s a boisterous charm about her, combined with the aura and looks of the girl next door. But I’ve never really seen her demonstrate any ability that would have her be put in the same league as other actresses of her generation, such as Nicole Kidman, Julianne Moore, or Cate Blanchett. Every time I’ve seen her in a movie, I can always imagine someone better for the part, someone more magnetic and commanding. I think it may have to do with her voice. Whenever she has to emote, it turns whiny and reedy, with little gravitas behind it. And even in comedies where she has shown to be more at home, she can be overshadowed by improv powerhouses like Melissa McCarthy. Basically, while she’s not terrible, she’s not altogether remarkable either. And let’s face it, the Oscar was awarded to honor her popularity more than anything else, just like Julia Roberts before her.

Not saying that most people think he’s a very gifted dramatic actor, but I think a lot of people would say that he works well in your standard, generic CGI actioner. I never feel like he’s giving those roles any effort, and he never exudes genuine charisma. It always comes off as him creating the most generic performance imaginable to attract the widest possible audience. There are much better wrestler-turned actors in Hollywood. Dave Bautista, Roddy Piper, etc. Never understood why the public latched onto him so much.

2023-03-12 08:13:44 +0000 UTCLeonardo DiCaprio. I’ve never understood how DiCaprio became the preeminent A-list actor of his generation. While very good at playing comically flawed characters like in Wolf of Wall Street or Once Upon a Time in Hollywood, I’ve never found his dramatic performances particularly compelling or nuanced. He lacks range and doesn’t seem to bring anything new or creative to his roles. I never forget its him on the screen. While not without talent, he doesn’t deserve the mantle, much less the opportunities, of being the Di Niro or DDL of his generation, particularly ahead of more versatile actors like Christian Bale, Tom Hardy, Michael Fassbender, etc.

2023-03-12 04:53:32 +0000 UTCAdam Sandler. He's proven with films like Punch Drunk Love and Uncut Gems that he can be exceptionally talented and yet he was a huge success because of Happy Madison films where he played the exact same character dozens of times and often badly. The only thing more frustrating than a bad actor is a good actor who constantly gives bad performances just to appeal to the masses.

2023-03-12 04:46:15 +0000 UTCI think something that would lead me to call an actor overrated would be if they get great well written roles, and just underperform consistently, and still get praised. I kind of feel like Olivia Colman fits this description with her recent dramatic work

2023-03-12 03:51:21 +0000 UTCMatthew McConaughey — I’d rather have a conversation with him in a bar about his career than watch any of his movies. Very little range, too much “vibe.” Even in something as heartbreaking as “Dallas Buyer’s Club” his lines seem like they’re waiting to be turned into memes. When he’s on screen I don’t see the character, I see Matthew McConaughey. Definitely a good voice, though. I wish he took on more animated roles.

2023-03-12 03:47:12 +0000 UTCI'll also say I think Will Smith is overrated and this opinion isn't related to the Chris Rock drama. I am a fan of Chris and saw him on this tour. But I had this opinion for years. When I see Smith in movies, I view him as Will Smith not his characters.

2023-03-12 03:35:18 +0000 UTCI don't think she's bad by any means. Talented for sure. But based on how people talk about her like she's the greatest ever, as though it's just something that's a given, that makes her overrated in my book. I think she was better at subtlety in earlier roles like The Deer Hunter. I also feel like for every great film she's been in a few mediocre ones. I think she's a fine actress that people elevated by overhyping. Roles in Oscar bait type movies added to the overhyping.
