Status Update
Added 2021-09-02 06:00:51 +0000 UTCHowdy folks! I just wanted to drop a quick note to keep you in the loop. In the following weeks, I’ve got a couple exciting things to share with you, including the results of the survey that I took earlier this year, which had about 200 responses, which was an amazing uptake. This data is gonna help inform what I prioritise on a macro level- I’m not yet entirely certain that the generator is sustainable as a full-time gig, but I would like to spend some more time actively adding features to see if that makes a difference to its growth which would enable me to consider working on it full time.
My number one priority at the moment is figuring out how to fix the demographic bug that has been plaguing the app for a while; I’ve had plenty of reports about it (thank you!), but unfortunately the twine ecosystem is not really built for reactivity, and the solution that I’ve been employing doesn’t really work quite right. I have got a proof of concept up and running in svelte, which I might tinker at for a bit longer to evaluate whether it’s a good idea for the longevity of the project to shift over to a more suitable framework. If I did go down this route, it would mean a long period of no updates, but eventually result in a more modern ecosystem that would be MUCH faster to develop in, and open up the possibility of features like api endpoints.
After the bug hunting, I want to make good on the promise of the last feature poll, and implement some town history. Much like the religion system, I’m not anticipating to use all of the features immediately, but I would like to build for the future, so the first version of it might be a little bit barebones (but extensible).
I’ll be putting out some polls for patrons to interact with in the coming days just because Patreon loves that sort of thing, and I can’t put more than one poll in a post. They won’t be binding (if I ask about features that you’d like to see, I’m not promising that I will implement the winner), and are just so I can get a feel for the community‘s feelings about the generator.
P.s. If you’re here because of the Facebook ad that I sent out, please let me know! Facebook loves to tell fibs about how effective it is, and I’ve been getting traffic from people that have just googled for town generators, as well as from Reddit.
