"It's an honest living, mostly." (Patreon patrons receive 8 additional versions of this track)
Greetings Patrons,
As a kid, I have a very vivid memory of listening to David Bowie sing "Please Mr. Gravedigger" from his 1967 debut record. It was the first time I'd ever heard sound effects (rain, church bells etc) on a musical recording. The song itself is a capella, which makes the lyrical content even more creepy. Here's a link to the video if any of you are interested.
When I started working on this , I wasn't sure which direction to take, thematically speaking. Making it overly spooky seemed too on-the-nose. I opted for something in-between: sweet, sad and slightly off. It's got live viola, strings, tremolo picked lutes, celeste, bass tagelharpa, various percussion, and choir.
The ambience is a small churchyard. A lone figure digs in the gravelly soil, while wind, rain and the peal of bells swirl around him.
As this track is in Patreon sneak-peek mode, I've included the mixed version of the track (live on the site next week), as well as ambience-only, and music-only versions here. Additionally, I created 2 'no rain' versions, 2 'no gravedigger' versions and 2 'no rain / no gravedigger' versions. I hope you find these useful additions.
Thank you all, as always, for your continuing support.
Best,
Tim
