New Ambience: Kingdom of Mist

Greetings Patrons,

I hope those of you in the northern hemisphere are surviving the heat. New York City has been absolutely sweltering, hopefully we'll get a reprieve soon. To that point, this ambience may have been a bit of wishful thinking on my part. Although my studio is air conditioned, I still wanted relief from the heat, at least in a sonic way.

The ambience here is a distant city that exists within a natural forest/jungle type biome. I would imagine that it's morning and the famous mists haven't begun to recede (they never do, fully). Above the rooftops and and peaks, large winged creatures soar in wide gyres. Unseen, in the mists below, other creatures call to each other through the dense fog.

Musically, I began this with a lovely synth pad, and was almost going to leave it all synth based, but then, like pulling a loose thread on an old sweater, I added a single reinforcing string line. Yeah. So then I couldn't just leave it there. The entire synth pad got augmented by orchestral strings. To that, I added a smattering of brass and woodwind. Oh, and choir, because distant cityscapes need choirs. Anyway, the result is kind of a nice intro/exposition piece for discovery scenes or just flying around. Most importantly, it feels cool, unlike the sidewalks outside.

As this is in Patreon sneak-peek mode, I've include the mixed version of the track (live on the site next week), as well as music-only, and ambience-only versions here. Additionally, I created 2 'No Fauna' versions which remove the large creatures, leaving behind a few birds. I hope you find these useful additions.

Oh, and in unforced error news - I totally forgot to include the id3 tags in last week's "Prison Block" tracks, so I've re-uploaded those files on that post. The audio is exactly the same so if you never use the id3 info or don't care, then you'll never notice. Sorry!

Thank you all, as always, for your continuing support.

Best,

Tim

Particularly great for non TTRPG activities, this one. You feel like a kind, wise king writing emails with this in the headphones. Well done.

This piece is wonderful! To me, it feels like Kharbranth, from the Stormlight Archives
