Greetings Patrons,
Sorry about the totally on-the-nose title, I began this track as something like 'mystical observatory' but by the time I added in all the telescope sounds and large servos I had a hard time buying the word mystical anymore. But, as you know, I always encourage everyone to ignore my titles and use it how you like.
My creative brief to myself actually started like this: "A new star appeared in the sky one evening. Things have been strange ever since." I still like that, and I still think it works.
For the ambience, we have a large domed room, with a massive metal door that opens to the outside. We get combined interior and exterior ambience, as well as some magic sounds coming from whatever the star is. Of course, there's a lot of metallic sounds; levers, ratchets and gears. Bustling about in all the excitement is a person. He mumbles to himself, shuffles to and fro, and occasionally stops to scrawl observations (or lunch ideas) down on parchment by the light of a guttering candle.
The orchestration for the music is straight orchestral; Strings, brass, woodwinds, percussion and choir. I think it makes for a great discovery/exposition track in that it starts with quiet drama and builds into something a bit more grand and magical. And, certainly wouldn't be out of place in D&D's Eberron setting.
As this track is in Patreon exclusive sneak-peek mode, I've included the mixed version of this track, as well as music-only and ambience-only versions here. Additionally, I created 3 'No Human' versions which remove our mumbling friend and his footsteps and scrawls. I also created 2 'no magic' versions which remove the ethereal emanations sound from the ambience. Finally, I like the intro to this so I created a music-only version of just the intro. This could be good for dropping in to various game moments without having to remember to stop the track.
Thank you all, as always, for your continuing support.
Best,
Tim
