New Ambience: Listening Post

Greetings Patrons,

Listening Post is a remote facility in the middle of nowhere. Nowhere could mean deep space, a desolated wilderness, or on one of the frozen poles (terrestrial or other). The point is that it's been there awhile. The amenities aren't great, and it's either just you, or maybe a small handful of people running the place and trying to stay sane.

If this sounds like something out of Alien, or The Thing, then you get where I was going with this.

The ambience here is old, worn out tech. Mostly analog. The structure itself has a personality, and a small but expressive vocabulary consisting mostly of groans, thumps, and wheezes. The gear sputters, glitches and prints things out in hard copy.

I went back and forth on whether this was going to be set in outer space, or a frozen wasteland, but in the end it doesn't matter. You're only going outside if you absolutely have to. I think this track has pretty good utility for modern and scifi games - with horror as an option for either.

Musically this is what I would call 'horror-adjacent'. It could be scary, but it could also just be ominous, or intriguing. Low strings, pitchy vocals and woodwinds (I used these instead of the usual brass for this role) - flutes all the way down to contrabass clarinets. Timpani and some vintage synths round it all out.

As this track is currently in Patreon sneak-peek mode, I've included the mixed version, as well as ambience-only, and music-only versions here for Patrons. Additionally, I created 2 'no comms' versions in case the station isn't used for that, as well as 2 'no footsteps' versions. These will be most apparent in the ambience-only tracks. I hope you find these useful additions.

Thank you all, as always, for your continuing support.

Best,

Tim

Really like this one - easy to listen to as background, but has enough interesting bits to pull your attention periodically. Loops well also, there's no abrupt stop/start just flows into a continuous theme. Thanks!
