Greetings Patrons,
This track is a couple of different things. On the ambience side It's a Victorian-era cityscape complete with Hansom cabs, horses, pedestrians and rain. On the music side it has a slightly sinister, slightly goofy, stealthy / pursuit / peering out of doorways type of vibe.
I recently purchased a new microphone preamp/EQ, so I thought that recording multiple tracks of live instruments was just the thing to put it through its paces. Violins, viola, and multiple percussion instruments are combined with sampled instruments: Piano, choir, woodwinds, string section, marimba and crotales.
I honestly didn't think too much about which instruments, and why, I went with the vibe first and if it sounded good - it stayed in.
I went back and forth on the title. "London Fog", "Victorian Pursuit" etc.. would all have worked. I just liked Capes and Canes as it sounded like a game I could see myself playing. Is it already a game? I didn't even look!
I think this would work in a lot of genres. Steampunk, fantasy, certainly anything vampire. There's a bit of a Jack the Ripper/deadly gentleman thing going on as well.
As this track is in Patreon exclusive sneak peek mode, I've included the mixed version (live on the site next week) as well as ambience-only and music-only versions. Additionally, I've included 2 'no rain' versions for flexibility. I also went back at the last minute and created an ambience-only version with no rain and no (main) footsteps.
Thank you all, as always, for your continuing support.
Best,
Tim
