Greetings Patrons,
As it's officially the spooky month, so I wanted to do a bit of sci-fi horror in the style of Event Horizon, Alien or Sunshine. Cryo Pods has all the elements of classic sci-fi horror. Atonal, arhythmic, and aleatoric. All the A's! But really, at its heart, it's the dichotomy between the fear of not waking up vs the fear of waking into a world that's stranger and more dangerous than your recent dreams.
Musically this is a hybrid orchestral score combining synthesizers, organic drones, various metallic percussion and a sprinkle of clustered strings and woodwinds. Nobody did this better than Jerry Goldsmith on the original Alien film.
The ambience is built around a reverb impulse taken from the empty loading deck of a ferry. This provided a large, reverberant, and most importantly, metallic interior to place the sounds. Once I had that, I sent computer drones, beeps, fan and engine noise and other things that go clank or groan into it. I then created some metallic impact sounds to act as droid feet and had them walk around the cryo chamber, you know, keeping an 'eye' on things. Or maybe someone reprogrammed them to wake you all up early so they could use you for an unspeakable experiment. hmm.
This track is currently in Patreon sneak-peek so I've included the mixed track (live on the site next week) as well as music-only and ambience-only versions. Additionally, if the above scenario about evil robots isn't to your taste, I've included a 'no-footsteps' version that removes the droids from the equation. With them gone, I'm sure you and your crew will arrive at your destination healthy and refreshed! Or maybe...
Thank you all, as always, for your continuing support.
Best,
Tim
