Greetings Patrons,
My end of summer vacation is a wrap and I'm excited to be back in the studio.
For the latest track, I found myself stumbling back into the universe of Dune. It's another one of my in-between state pieces. A mostly interior setting of a quasi-religious nature. But of course, it doesn't have to be.
I've always found the Bene Gesserit order to be Frank Herbert's greatest creation. It is through them that Dune becomes a story spanning tens of thousands of years. Their commitment to the long game is truly something to behold!
The ambience is, as I mentioned, mostly interior, although I imagined a door open to the outside world, or perhaps a wall missing. Inside torches provide light and there are pools of liquid that gurgle. The sisterhood are a secretive bunch, so they communicate sotto voce, in small groups.
Musically this is underscore and heavily textural. Solo viola works well with solo duduk as they have a remarkably similar timbre (as I recently discovered). There are voices and drums and various chimes as well (chimes are also in the ambience).
As this is in sneak-peek mode, I've included the mixed version (live on the site next week) as well as music-only and ambience-only versions here for patrons. Additionally, I created 2 'no sisters' versions which remove the whispers and the shuffling footsteps, essentially creating an empty space.
Thank you all, as always, for your continuing support.
Best,
Tim
