New Ambience: Frontier Town

Greetings Patrons,

Years ago, when I was doing contracts for corporate clients I had a golden rule: 'leave the guitars on the wall'. I was brought into so many jobs where the previous composer had been a frustrated guitar player (aren't we all though?) and this gig was going to be how they showed the world their skills.

I've relaxed since those days, primarily because Tabletop Audio has very few rules (one of the primary reasons I started it).

This is a long-winded preface to say that I took the guitars off the wall. Also the violin, the tambourine, a few shakers and a frame drum. I mean, if I can't strum, drum and fiddle a bit on a western themed track, what am I even doing?

There are plenty of other elements of course, but I always find that adding even a single live instrument lends credibility to the perfectly recorded world of orchestral samples.

"Frontier Town" is a western style outpost with a saloon, a sheriff's office, a hitching post, a general store and a few other things. People go about their lives, strangers come through and they deal with the daily rigours of frontier life. The ambience version could probably pass as a medieval village as well.

Musically, I wanted this to be fairly optimistic. It's a nice day, people are out and about and in a generally good mood. Aside from the live instruments there's plenty of strings, trumpets and percussion to round it all out.

(Spoiler alert, I was working on a companion piece at the same time for a much darker themed vibe. Actually there are 2 of them.)

As this is in Patreon sneak-peek mode, I've included the mixed version (live on the site next week), as well as music-only, and ambience-only versions. Additionally, I created 2 'rain' versions which add, you guessed it -- plus, I removed a bit of the outdoor activity which didn't befit a rainy day. It adds a subtly different vibe. I hope you find these useful additions.

Thank you all, as always, for your continuing support.

Best,

Tim

This series has been great! I recently got into Deadlands, and this is a perfect companion. Plus I live in the west, so this is also great music when visiting old ghost towns and such!

Just checked in here to find these western themed audios and I have to say, this is perfect timing, we just released a ttrpg called 6Gun that's a silly little cowboy game built for one shots and these tracks would go amazing with these games. What are the odds???? Love the track and keep up the good work :)

Just want to let you know I'm enjoying this one. Taking the guitar down from the wall was the right call--good strumming! ALSO: nice to have some happy musical beats. Dark-themed shows and RPGs seem standard these days. Having the upbeat moods is not only nice, but needed, since the contrast will serve nicely to set up a dark/eerie/spooky moment that follows.

Very cool! I'm also playing a fantasy western campaign this will be great for! <3

Wonderful! In May, I have started a Wild West Campaign, and it looks like it is going last over the winter. So this theme music is absolutely what I will use on several scenes. Thank You!

Bundesbuchhaendler

Yes!!! More western content thank you!

Avenue Studios

I’ve been waiting for one like this! Fantastic!!

(I'm also looking forward to the 'dark vibes' versions, too.)

Very nice. And also handy for any folk playing Firefly-esque SF, or even some locations in Rifts. And the music-only version is handy for horse-free settings with that kind of feel, too.

So excited for this! I'm playing in a fantasy Western RPG right now, and this is perfect! Thanks for all your hard work!
