Greetings Patrons,
I was playing the excellent Hellblade video game this week (the first one) and loved how immersive they made the atmosphere. Everything seemed alive, and dead at the same time. I started by sketching out drums and the drone/guitar noise. I debated removing the guitar bit but ended up leaving it as it was so menacing, and added a pinch of Scandinavian black metal vibes. I played live seed shaker and a bit of tagelharpa to keep it as naturalistic as possible.
The ambience is some interesting treated nature recordings that sound like vines growing and stretching. There are also bone chimes, wind, rustling leaves, and a track of 'spirit whispers' that dance around the listener's head.
I think this would work for both suspense and action scenarios.
This track will be in Patreon-exclusive sneak-peek mode until it goes live on the site next week. I've included the mixed version, as well as music-only, and ambience-only versions of the track. Additionally, I created 2 "no spirits' versions that remove the whisper element and make it a bit less otherworldly.
Thank you all, as always, for your continuing support.
Best,
Tim
