New Ambience: The Drowned Tower

Edit: I updated the 3 tracks with music in them (neither of the AMB tracks) as I found some weird issues after listening to it a couple of days later. You can find the new tracks below. The date should be 12 Feb, 2024. - Tim

Greetings Patrons,

The music was completed on this one before I knew what it was going to be. I'm sure you'll agree that it could have gone in many directions. There's a wistful, nostalgic quality here so I was thinking of a return to something. But I just recently made a track called Homecoming. The entire time I was writing this, I was thinking of large objects moving in slow motion. So, underwater it was, and naturally, whales became those objects.

Musically this is lilting and swirling and, as I mentioned, quite nostalgic. Strings and woodwinds do the heavy lifting with a dash of brass and percussion. I don't often add piano to orchestral pieces (I don't know why, and I think I'll probably do this more) so I did some rearranging of the sketching piano part and it fit nicely.

I think this will make a good expository, start-of-adventure-type piece. It would also be good for breaks in the action as a bit of relief.

The ambience is water, bubbles, whooshes, occasional tower doors, and whalesong. I searched for natural recordings of whales for way too long before I decided to play them on a synthesizer.  In the mix, I think they work well.

This is in Patreon sneak-peek mode so I've included the mixed version (live on the site next week) as well as ambience-only, and music-only versions. Additionally, I created 2 'No Whales' versions which are subtly different but I hope may make it a bit more flexible for different stories/scenarios.

Thank you all, as always, for your continuing support.

Best,

Tim
