Greetings Patrons,
A happy 2024 to you all!
It is so good to be back in NYC after a short holiday away. I think I kid myself when I say I love what I do, and therefore downtime is unnecessary. It really is necessary, and 6 days seems to be the perfect amount of time away from the studio. Anything more and I'll have to figure out a mobile writing/recording solution!
When I saw the New York skyline on my return, the word 'homecoming' wouldn't leave my head. The way it feels to be back, the way travel is good, but home is home. This idea stayed with me as I was sketching out the new track.
The ambience was going to be a fantasy city, something with a bit of bustle. Maybe a festival of some kind, or maybe just a reception for the conquering heroes. I created a spacious environment to simulate a central square, placing sounds in the foreground as well as the distance.
Musically this was going to be as traditional as it gets. The full Howard Shore. String orchestra with woodwinds and brass, minimal percussion, and a sprinkling of magical faerie dust over the top. I think this will find lots of use a general-purpose start/end campaign theme. I'm quite pleased with how it came out and I found some new orchestration ideas along the way, so bonus!
This is in Patreon-only sneak-peek mode currently, so I've included the mixed version of the track (live on the site next week), as well as music-only, and ambience-only versions. Additionally, I created 2 'fewer people' versions (mixed and ambience) for situations where the location is still a town/city, but without the throngs of people. I hope you find these useful additions.
Thank you all, as always, for your continuing support.
Best,
Tim
