Greetings Patrons,
Here's a steampunk setpiece that should be equally at home in fantasy, or gritty sci-fi. "Infernal Machine" is an impenetrable mass of gears, cogs, pistons, and whatsits all grinding away for some mysterious purpose.
The ambience, as the name implies, is full of various flavors of mechanical sound. Groaning metal, grinding gears, precise ratchets, and massive clonks.
Musically I've mashed together a few different genres. It's mysterious without going too far. There are even periods of positivity here as the nature of the machine begins to dawn on the players. The plucky strings are played by an oud. There's also some metallic percussion which ties the music to the machine itself. The rest is hybrid synth/orchestral with some heavily processed electric violin interspersed throughout.
As this track is in Patreon-only sneak-peek mode (live on the site next week), I've included the mixed-version, as well as ambience-only and music-only versions of the track here. Additionally, I've created 'inactive' versions of the machine which remove most of the banging and clanging and have a more 'standby' throbbing and humming type of sound. This should be useful if the story is about turning the thing on or off.
Thank you all, as always, for your continuing support.
Best,
Tim
