New Ambience: Awakenings

Greetings Patrons,

I'm a big fan of scoring particular moments, just like I would do if I was writing to picture. The challenge for me in creating Tabletop Audio tracks is always to come up with the scene. I feel like I need to create the film, or at least a scene before I can start scoring it. This doesn't always happen at the beginning. Sometimes I'll start playing around with musical ideas and a scene will emerge. Other times I'll play with sound fx first.

For this track, Awakenings, I was messing around with vocal effects. Recording myself saying various things and mangling them with various processors. I ended up with this bizarre, glitchy, stuttering that reminded me of a broken robot, or a robot that hadn't quite booted up properly yet. So that's where the idea came from. Awakenings is an android booting up for the first time in a lab and taking its first halting steps.

Musically this is fairly synth-heavy, but there are actually a lot of orchestral strings as well. I blended these in with synth pads, a felt piano, and even a glockenspiel. It's fairly peaceful sounding with a slight build and a steady pulse throughout. I think it would work well for any modern, high-tech, cyberpunk-style scenario that wasn't action-oriented.

The ambience is room tones, glitchy robot vocals, footsteps, and computer noises.

As this track is in Patreon-only sneak-peek mode, I've included the mixed version of the track (live on the site next week), as well as ambience-only and music-only versions here for patrons. Additionally, I've included a mixed-version and an ambience-only version without the android. I hope you find these useful.
