New Ambience: Trail of Ashes

Greetings Patrons,

As a fan of in-between moments in stories, I created this army in motion. These are foot soldiers, no fancy officers on horseback. Whatever country, whatever year this was, these were the grunts.

The 'action' takes place on a blustery, gray landscape. The once-green grass has turned to dirt and mud. The soldiers are weary, having just survived one battle and probably on the way to another.

Musically this is Celtic-ish. Can you see my air quotes? Like most things I do, realism takes the back seat to cool. For instance, I couldn't get uilleann pipes to sound right, so I replaced them with a hurdy-gurdy, which I think turned out pretty well and served a similar purpose. There's a fairly consistent march beat here, helped by various frame and field drums. The music does have a few peaks which I think helped with the pacing.

My original version had the soldiers marching together in formation, but a I worked on it, however, I saw muddy, battle-weary faces rather than a spit-and-polish regiment. I created a more chaotic group and I thought it worked better thematically.

As this track is in patron-only sneak-peek mode, (live on the site next week), I've included the mixed-version, as well as music-only and ambience-only versions of the track below. Additionally, I created a mixed-version and an ambience-only version with synchronized marching steps that could be useful for the fresh-faced squad with clean uniforms, marching off to their first skirmish.

Thank you all, as always, for your continuing support.

Best,

Tim

Will use this when my players travel to the cold North in my WFRP campaign. Wonderful stuff!

YES! The steps only is perfect for the scene I'm writing at the moment <3
