New Ambience: Egg Chamber

Greetings Patrons,

This week's ambience features all manner of slime, ooze, and gore. Or, to be precise, stewed tomatoes, eggshells, and mac & cheese. It's a standard sci-fi horror set piece but could easily be repurposed for fantasy.

For me, Egg Chamber was about finding the right degree of tension - and then just trying to hang on to it. There are no big builds so there was no need for release. I tried to make it feel like holding one's breath.

Musically this is all about the drums. I find that modern drum sample libraries are doing a much better job with the quiet end of the spectrum. For years, developers assumed that if you were adding drums to a track (esp taikos, surdos etc) that you were doing over-the-top epic trailer music. The rest of the instrumentation features classic string effects, metallic scrapes and piano.

The ambience contains a bit of tonality in the room tone/drone and the aforementioned organic sounds. My notes to myself were: "make it sound humid", which is actually a pretty funny audio directive.

As this is in patron-only sneak-peek mode (live on the site next week), I've included the mixed-version, as well as ambience-only, and music-only versions. Additionally, I created mixed and ambience versions without the subtle helmet radio sounds. With the removal of tech, this ambience can be used in genres or situations where that would be out of place.

Thank you all, as always, for your continuing support.

Best,

Tim

This gave me shivers just listening to it. Now I have to find some creepy situation to put it in.

This was really good. I can easily use this during a nasty spider cave crawl.
