First Look: Custom SoundPads

I'm finally putting this out there for you, my Patrons. I'd like to ask that you keep this to yourselves and your immediate group of friends and players (it's on the live site, but not linked from any of the menus yet). Which means, if at all possible, not to post this on social media until I say "release the hounds!".

If you've ever wanted your bard to ride his horse onto the deck of a starship and play his lute for a delighted crew, I think I might finally have you covered! Here's the first crack at Custom SoundPads, a request I got as soon as I released Dark Forest, the 2nd installment of the  SoundPad series.

My paradigm,  for this tool, as with all of Tabletop Audio, is 'push a button, play a sound'.  It really doesn't ever need to be more complicated than that. I'm not a big fan of tools that require a steep learning curve. Especially tools like this one that are used in social situations, i.e. around a table with other humans. Having someone at your table buried in their device, poking through menus isn't really conducive to the shared storytelling experience.

So, if I've done my job right, you'll be off and creating your own custom environments in no time.  But here's a quick overview just in case:

1.  SoundPads in the left menu are color coded. This is so you can easily identify where sounds come from. You'll need to know this to remove sounds. Find the sound you want to remove (it will be grayed out in the sounds menu) and click to remove. I wanted to keep the main interface free of delete icons.

2.  In order to save scenes or get a link to your custom SoundPad you'll need to save the SoundPad first. Saved SoundPads appear on the right hand menu. The left menu needs to be closed to see the right menu.

3.  Custom SoundPads have a limit of 24 sounds each. This is to prevent crashes on mobile devices. But it might still crash older devices if you push this limit. I used 24 as a fairly unscientific guess of a limit - let me know if it's too much!

4.  The broadcast feature has not yet been implemented. I'll try to get this working over the next few weeks. (months?)

At this point I'm really only going to be fielding requests for fixes of the existing feature set, not new ones. I'll write them all down of course but I'm so ready to get back into making audio you wouldn't believe it. I hope you find this a useful addition to the site.

Thank you all so much for your support!

best,

Tim

Btw if you want to make removing sounds more intuitive, you could change Clear all to Remove sounds(etc), which would show remove icons on sounds and also shows Clear all. I think it's good to be able to remove from sidebar too though.

That's perfect man. Super easy & intuitive to use.

THIS IS AWESOME!!

Christopher Green

oh man, this is awesome!

Nifty, I really like it so far. I'll have to play more with it as soon as I find the time.

After a brief test on my mobile, it worked very well! Excellent work, as always :D Can't wait to get it to actual use!
