High School Musical 3 (Early Access)

Comments

Ryan and Kelsi was very random because Ryan was supposed to be gay. Lucas Grabeel asked director Kenny Ortega about Ryan's sexuality very early on and they agreed Ryan should be gay. Kenny even confirmed it in an interview and Lucas apparently pushed for Ryan to come out in the movie series. However, Disney wouldn't allow it in a "family movie". Kenny later stated that he believed Ryan would eventually come out while in college. The matter is never addressed until the TV series, where he is seen kissing and presumably in a relationship with a character played by Pentatonix's Scott Hoying. The only thing I don't like about the movies is how they undid the endings for the previous ones and made Sharpay mean again. But I don't get how some people insist she wasn't actually the villain for most of the movies and even say Gabriella was the villain by stopping Troy from achieving his dreams and taking the spotlight away from Sharpay. Like what?! Did we watch the same movies? And while Sharpay was talented and worked hard, she wouldn't have gotten half of those opportunities if her parents weren't filthy rich. Ryan (whom she treated like crap most of the time) was also arguably more talented than her because he could sing AND choreograph. But Tiara was definitely worse than Sharpay because she pretended to be her friend. Fun facts: This movie was released theatrically because it was the most expensive of the 3 at $30 million (the 1st was $4.2 million & the 2nd was $7 million). It debuted at the #1 spot with an opening weekend of $42 in the U.S. and breaking the record, previously held by Enchanted, for the biggest opening ever for a movie musical. It would later be broken by Pitch Perfect 2 in 2015 ($69.2 million). The movie also opened at #1 overseas and ultimately grossed a total of $252.9 million worldwide. There were rumours of a 4th movie for the longest time but nothing ever came of it. There is, however, the Sharpay spin-off movie and the series which lasted 4 seasons, from 2019-2023. It's good but it just doesn't have the same magic or the nostalgia. All of the original songs from the movie were listed among the 49 eligible songs for nomination at the 2009 Oscars in the Best Original Song category, with special notice towards the songs I Want It All, Can I Have This Dance (written by Glee music producer Adam Anders and Glee vocal director Nikki Hassman/Anders), A Night to Remember and Scream (Bet On It from 2 is iconic but Scream is such an underrated Troy solo imo). Ultimately, none of the songs were nominated, though Last Chance (which was part of the compilation song in the musical) was performed during the ceremony as a part of a tribute to songs from movie musicals. The performance included Zac & Vanessa (who were a couple at the time), along with Hugh Jackman (who was the host), Beyoncé and Amanda Seyfried & Dominic Cooper from Mamma Mia! (who were also a couple at the time). It's almost impossible to find online but this is the best quality I found: https://dai.ly/xm1fg1. I'm not even a Beyoncé fan but she ate that up. Hugh too. They all did really! Zac Efron played pranks on the rest of the cast by throwing water balloons among other things: https://youtu.be/1LW0WFSmR4k?si=Cjg4ax8nY995lL11. As payback, the cast covered the inside of Zac's trailer with toilet paper and attacked him with water guns along with dumping a bucket of water on him: https://youtu.be/NuJGoiVmwNI?si=IkhZcnk4hyPK0gpZ (Vanessa got caught in the crossfire, which is funny because they explicitly said she was an "innocent bystander" 🤣). Series trademark: As in the first two movies, Troy looks at an invisible watch on his wrist. This time it's in the lunch hall before Chad invites Taylor to prom. Troy's red and white shirt also appears in all 3 movies. In the Now Or Never scene, Chad jumps from a lying position, which he also did during Stick To The Status Quo in the first movie. During the final performance, Sharpay does a jazz square, calling back to Sharpay and Ryan's audition in the first movie. At about 8:55 in the movie, when Troy and Gabriella are in the treehouse, you can see Chad and Taylor holding hands on the swings below. Jason's shirt during the prom scene before they get changed says "Jason + Martha = Prom". Jimmie "The Rocket Man" Zara's shirt number is 41, a reversal of Troy's number 14. The plot was originally supposed to be "Haunted High School Musical" and feature elements of Halloween. The school they filmed at, East High School in Salt Lake City, Utah, kept Sharpay's double pink lockers and still do to this day. Every year, school officials pick one student to use them. At the end of filming, the cast received identical class rings (gold with a red stone in it). Corbin Bleu had his lost or stolen while he was out on tour, but Monique Coleman replaced it during filming of the 10 year anniversary special. Zac Efron missed the first 3 weeks of dance rehearsals because he was filming another movie, Me and Orson Welles. Also, Zac injured his wrist while filming the spinning corridor scene featured in the song Scream. Selena Gomez was offered a role but turned it down because she was looking to do more serious roles. She didn't specify which part it was, but fans have speculated that it was the role of Tiara Gold, Sharpay's assistant. Ali Lohan auditioned for the part as well. David Reivers, who plays Chad's dad, is Corbin Bleu's dad IRL. He has starred as his father in other movies like DCOM Jump In! and Free Style. The song The Boys Are Back mentions Will Smith and Robert De Niro. Zac Efron and Robert De Niro would later appear together in the movies New Year's Eve and Dirty Grandpa. The song played during the end credits is sung by Stan Carrizosa, the winner of ABC's summer reality show, High School Musical: Get in the Picture. The show's 11 finalists appear in the music video. Director Kenny Ortega can be seen in one of the group basketball photos in the end credits. Creepy fact: Matt Prokop, who plays Jimmie "The Rocket Man" Zara, starred with Sarah Hyland (from Modern Family) in DCOM movie Geek Charming. They were in a relationship from 2010 until 2014, when she left him after he had allegedly physically and verbally abused her throughout their relationship. She took out a temporary restraining order against him and finally a permanent restraining order. He has not worked in the entertainment industry since. 10 Year Reunion in 2016: https://youtu.be/V426H-lc5LE?si=2XhUZPY-sKW6R6ZD GMA interview: https://youtu.be/LXj6l7ftUnk?si=5IA6YErSsG0Kt2sh Finish the lyrics @ Radio Disney: https://youtu.be/oX4QBqzQjMI?si=CdWjQs3KyXDqByqR J-14 Magazine interview: https://youtu.be/5fX3lhu9278?si=JD8jmPAbDN5fFxme Here is also a video of a mini reunion with Monique Coleman (Taylor) and Kaycee Stroh (Martha) walking through the school and live-streaming on Facebook: https://youtu.be/3oN5Aw6Ufog?si=uwaHuGwv25AG-Yru. It was during school hours and by the end they had a lot of students following them along 😂 Ashley Tisdale used to have a series on her YouTube channel called "Music Sessions" where she sang with a special guest each time, including Vanessa Hudgens singing a cover of Ex's & Oh's: https://youtu.be/U5pzC_gUlpA?si=h_5bKEFvQrYXEb0Q and Lucas Grabeel singing What I've Been Looking For: https://youtu.be/XDsBDG3y0Pg?si=okmo4ZNxBKM0yZVw. And, finally, some of the cast of the movies AND the TV series (as well as other Disney alums - mostly from other Kenny Ortega productions) singing along/dancing to We're All In This Together for a Disney/ABC special during COVID lockdown: https://youtu.be/ls0sFCbPbvA?si=L4R80cFCUbdJQbMz. Goof: When Troy invites Gabriella to prom he says he's never been to a dance, but if you look closely in HSM 2 there is a scene where Troy is in his room talking to his dad and there is a picture on his nightstand of Troy and Gabriella at what looks like a dance.

Heida
