Perhaps Mr. Wheatley leaving was just for the best because her or her mom would have probably never have gotten to travel the world and play as much, and her mom would have been stuck at home instead of having a good time and supporting her daughter. It sucks she died, but I'm glad she didn't go stuck at home with a turd for a husband.

She probably live that way for years before Beth came along. Her drinking and addiction was a product of that. And something very common back then for women. I was suspicious of her at first. But liked Beth’s relationship with her in the end. I also liked how they show her remembering words of wisdom from Mr. Shaibel. It shows the impact he had on her.
