The actors who play Pen and Colin are friends irl and the mirror scene really reflects (haha pun) the trust they have in each other as actors. At the engagement party, when Colin starts his speech, Penelope is front and centre, which is an unusual place for her to be standing, while Cressida moves away from everyone and stands alone in the corner near the wall. It’s almost as if she’s taking Penelope’s place as a wallflower, foreshadowing the end of the episode when she steals Penelope’s identity as Whistledown.

From her perspective, Colin and Penelope mysteriously got engaged after spending the night together alone, unchaperoned, which suggests something physical happened between them. If Colin were to change his mind as he had done before, Penelope’s reputation would be ruined.

2025-05-04 23:03:46 +0000 UTCfun fact: the engagement party scene simone and jonathan (kate and anthony) did background stuff in the back where anthony just looked at kate while she was doing viscountess duties while his brothers were talking and he wasn’t listening, he was just admiring his wife and when anthony was with violet and lady danbury kate and anthony held hands when she was passing by! and when colin was talking about being in the mud with your future bride anthony and kate looked at each other because of their scene in the mud!!
