Not all babies get colic, but you just have to ride it out with them till it's over. It's a tough thing but it eventually passes and life goes on.

Colic is when babies cry excessively for no reason. In real life, they never discovered what actually was definitively wrong with George. One theory is bipolar, but they definitely didn't know how to treat mental illness in the 1700s.

Lol at the colic/cowlick comments. "Colic" is a condition that some babies get where they just cry inconsolably all the time without apparent cause. My sister had it for like 3 months- it's a nightmare. Imagine being a parent and your infant is just screaming crying for hours on end and nothing you do helps.
As to the doctor, I think he's power-tripping at least. He delivered that baby news terribly. Maliciously, even. Like "you can't get rid of me, I know you wanted to keep me a secret but now I, the man who's been treating you so harshly, is responsible for the care of your wife." That, in combination with his natural fears of what he may pass on or how he may deal with being a father, is enough to set anyone off. If the news had been delivered gently by Charlotte, he might have had a panic attack but seems like a psychotic break would have been less likely. But the Doctor was all slimy about it. I feel like he was weaponizing the news, hoping to bring George back down to his dungeon.
