I think ya'll misunderstood some things in this movie. First Katniss said goodbye to Gale because she basically blames him for her sisters death, the double bomb/trap was his idea, she can't look at him the same anymore. Second Katniss and Haymitch weren't really agreeing to another Hunger Games, Katniss just wanted Coin to trust her so she could get an opportunity to kill her. Haymitch realized that she had a plan thats why they stared at eachother for a moment before he voted yes as well. The double bomb thing happened because Coin wanted the capitol to turn on Snow, what better way to do it then to do something heinous like kill a pen of the capitols children and then kill everyone who comes in to help as well. It had to be something really messed up for the capitol to turn on Snow as well. I think this ending was really good and it wasnt as bad as ya'll felt it was. Maybe watch it again because yall seem to have misunderstood some things. As for the epiloge with Katniss and Peeta, the time jump, that wasn't really abrupt at all either, it had literally been building for awhile, Katniss and Gale were never really a thing, Gale literally kept pointing it out, Katniss's mind was solely on Peeta pretty much throughout all of the movies except maybe the beginning of Catching Fire. I think the main thing that made people dislike how this ended was Prims death, it was upsetting because of everything that Katniss had done to keep Prim safe, but as Snow said, "These things happen in war" so as much as Prim dying sucked, it did make sense storywise for something like that to happen.

2025-03-05 08:47:57 +0000 UTCI've been such a fan of the book series for years and loved seeing you guys react to it! It is a common fan consensus that the ending isn't well received. People hated the last book when it came out and felt like it was rushed and that Katniss lost her agency in the end. I really wasn't a fan of it for years, but now, 10 years removed, I am content with the ending. Katniss and Gale were not good for each other. Collins says in the book "That what I need to survive is not Gale's fire, kindled with rage and hatred. I have plenty of fire myself. What I need is the dandelion in the spring. The bright yellow that means rebirth instead of destruction." The bomb plot line just pushes this over the edge. There's a lot more that people had problems with, and you guys too, but here is the book's defense of Peeta over Gale!
