The Hunger Games: Mockingjay – Part 2 (Early Access)

Isn’t Katniss supposed to be like 17?? So weird to think of someone that age as the face of a rebellion

I live for Blake crashouts, they are the best lol Can't wait for Divergent! <3

ToxicQueen

Igli making eye contact with the camera through the whole ending was such a mood. Like knowing how it ends, knowing the knife in your heart about to twist... dang.

Melissa Winter

Absolutely!

The US knew about the USSR's post-war plans as well. The US and USSR were the two largest post-war superpowers.

I'd pay a premium tier to watch Blake try and give an unwilling-Igli "uppies". Just saying.

Adam Pacio

I actually think they did a great job with the Mockingjay movies. Definitely too unnecessarily hated imo

I'm about to blow Blake's mind (maybe not) with this information: He said that he doesn't accept the bomb justification from Coin because she'd already won. Yet, before that he provided an example of dropping the A-bombs on japan, when in reality, we didn't have to do that either. All of our intel at that point in the war was that the Japan was ready to surrender, and about to make negotions. We still dropped the bombs anyways, as a message to the Germans who were also racing to build atomic weapons at the time, and to make the Japanese give up their emperor and surrender. And even if you can justify deploying Little Boy, there was absolutely never any need to deploy Fat Man. We did it as a spectacle, a warning and a punishment for the Japanese people. Coin's logic makes perfect sense, from a villain/power hungry leader's perspective. Katniss would never genuinely consent to the games but saw it as the perfect opportunity to take her out, in front of everyone. You can tell by his acting that Haymitch can see she's got something cooking and says that he sides with the Mockingjay. This movie was rushed and definitely had some writing choices in it, but that is nowhere even close to being as bad as S8.

Katie Thomas

Yea I always assumed it was obvious through their body language and facial expressions that Katniss decides to say yes so she can kill Coin and Haymitch notices

Katie Thomas

She couldn’t take out Gale at the Capital because she only had one arrow. It was meant for Snow. She had to make it count even though she didn’t use it. 😂

I disagree that Mockingjay is GoT S8, that is a little harsh. I was highly disappointed with the end of GoT. This…not so much. They rushed at adapting the book, and it showed. There were things that happen, like the bombing of the capital children, that you can’t rush explaining, otherwise the audience is just going to be confused, especially if they didn’t read the book. This movie was the most rushed, but I was overall satisfied with the author's direction in the book. In the book, you understand Gale’s part in the bombing and the gravity of it all. You understand Katniss‘s decision to put some blame on him and her need for Peeta. They both have PTSD and share trauma together. It is explained much better in the book.

I think the double bomb, Gale’s plan in part, the point was, was that he essentially became what they were fighting against in the first place. That’s my opinion and why Katniss realized she could never be with someone like that who would agree to the second bomb that killed her sister. Been a long time since I read the books but I’m pretty sure Katniss and Haymitch planned on how they would vote for the new hunger games to put Katniss in a position to kill Coin. Katniss would NEVER, as a character, agree to that. Blake has a good comparison with this film being as disappointing as season 8 GoT. Mockingjay part 1, was way stretched out and part 2 was rushed. The pacing was terrible and they could have done so much better with such a great trilogy. I don’t think the adaptation did a great job of showing certain things, like how Katniss and Buttercup became inseparable after the loss of Prim, when they disliked each other before. Anyway, disappointing adaptation to say the least but still a fan of the trilogy. The best ending would have been if Gale ended up with Katniss’ mom. 😆 Ha ha 🤣

The second bomb also makes sense imo because it’s the thing that seals Snow’s fate. 1 bomb can be attributed to a tragic accident or a misfire. Two is undoubtedly intentional, and gives the image of Snow killing the people sent to save what few children were still alive.

Halima

They told us that the reason to use the double-bomb trick is to kill as many people as possible. The intention of the bombings was not just to kill any support for Snow, but also for Snow’s cause. Making it look like Snow killed the Capitol’s children and the medics sent to save them achieves that goal. Leaders killing their own people in order to achieve a military or political goal is extremely true to real life, and considering the author got inspiration from the Iraq War, I’d say she was spot on! Katniss never confronts Coin about it because 1) Coin had enough power by then to silence her for good and 2) she would’ve just denied it anyway. The only way to get rid of Coin was for Katniss to catch her by surprise and risk her life doing it. The purpose of the proposed Hunger Games was to show that Coin isn’t so different from Snow, and to show that the cycle of violence continues if anger and feelings of revenge aren’t kept in check. And finally, Gale and Katniss never got a proper goodbye because his military tactic got her sister killed as collateral. There’s not much to say after something like that.

Halima

I understand Blake’s complaint with the second bomb, but I think the first one makes sense. Coin wanted to turn Snow’s people against him, to get rid of any of his support and any resistance to her taking over, so she made it seem as though he sacrificed his own people to save himself. Also, Katniss never wanted another hunger games, she voted yes to stay on Coin’s good side and so that she could demand to kill Snow, knowing already that she was going to kill Coin instead. She didn’t hug Gale because she blames him for Prim’s death. Whether or not he set up the bombing, it was his idea. Why would she hug someone when she blames him for losing the one person who mattered to her above all others? Finally, the book does a better job of explaining why Katniss stays with Peeta. “That what I need to survive is not Gale's fire, kindled with rage and hatred. I have plenty of fire myself. What I need is the dandelion in the spring. The bright yellow that means rebirth instead of destruction. The promise that life can go on, no matter how bad our losses. That it can be good again. And only Peeta can give me that.”
