Finally caught up with the HG reactions! Loving it so far. But oof you guys are not prepared for the outpouring of Peeta love coming your way once these first few vids get posted. He’s a romantic lead written to reflect realistic ideals women have in the modern day: his sensitivity, his patience, his lack of ego, his willingness to use comfort without leveraging it like an IOU, his tendency to shelve his emotional needs based on the specifics of the situation, his inclination towards diplomacy and empathy. Gale is an old-school romantic male archetype: brave, physically imposing, protective, passionate, assertive, and violent (driven by strong sense of justice). Even if he does have the flaws of occasional emotional pushiness and general aggression, those are actually staples of the trope that fly with ease, normally. They can be skewed as admirable flaws, even, by the right narrative. On the whole, he’s a good guy from what we’ve seen (minus a few moments which I’m sure YouTube comments will expound upon) and a well fleshed-out character in the books. The traditional genre choice that I've enjoyed plenty in other series. It’s just funny that Collins introduced the gentle baker boy and suddenly the majority of female reader/viewers (including me) were like “actually, Gale is kind of a lot, can we have less of that?” At the end of the day, this is Katniss’s story so we live through Katniss’s emotions… and what does *she* need? On the whole, male reactors tend to have a harder time getting in that frame of mind and understanding what’s so appealing about Peeta and what Gale is doing to turn off many (though not all) female viewers. This series is an excellent meta critique of masculinity and romance in this genre, mostly by offering a compelling subversion. I made a joke about pre-dialing 911 prior to Eclipse because I could tell by the energy, you were running headfirst into that beehive. And boy did you. I must warn you I’m pre-dialing again… the Peeta defense will be fiery and unyielding. As will the critiques of Gale’s behavior. Starting from the first movie.

I’m literally in the same boat as Igli. I read all of the books but never saw Mockingjay part 2 for some reason. I liked this movie but I think Catching Fire is still my favorite of the films so far.

You know what’s messed up is that Peeta said in the first movie that he didn’t want them to change who he is/ and that they don’t own him! But now they brought his worse fear in this one! Just breaks my heart😿💔

#TeamKale <3 Can't wait for the next one :)

I know a lot of fans were upset they divided the last book into 2 movies, but I personally love this movie and the way it sets up the politics and relationships so that the actions in the next movie have more of an impact emotionally. Another great reaction!! Can’t wait to see Blake’s reaction to part 2!

I think in the scene where Natalie Dormer’s character is introduced, the guy standing to her right may also have had a role in GoT, but a small one. I think he’s the slave dedicated to Dany who murders the son of the harpy and then Dany executes him for it. Not positive it’s the same actor, but looks like him. So, just an interesting comment about the tracker jacker venom used to fear condition Peeta. If you go back to Catching Fire, you probably remember Commander Thread. For years, when I watched it, I always thought there was something “off,” with him that I couldn’t put my finger on. You can guess where this is going now—he was under the influence of tracker jacker venom, too. Probably, most people pick up on that, but I didn’t lol. The song Blake remembers has a great lore story behind it and once you know it, it makes Katniss’ choice to sing it even more poignant. Hope Blake reads the trilogy..it’s a relatively quick read and the writing style is simple, but beautiful. Xo
