I’m glad Blake spotted Jack Quaid! He’s so much younger in this movie that he’s easy to miss. Whenever you guys watch The Substance, you’ll see Jack’s dad Dennis Quaid

Sam

Something I want to bring up is that once the games are over the people in the Capitol are allowed to visit the arena's as like a tourist site where they act out deaths and things that happened during the games it's really messed up but never gets spoken about

Joined patreon just for this series, for me it's hands down the best book series to movies adaptation ever Catching Fire is definitely the best of the bunch but I will say they are all really good and mockingjay part 1&2 (1 especially) are definitely overhated. Also there's a Haymitch prequel book that is coming out next month and a movie has already been confirmed for next year.

Olivia Taylor

you guys MUSTTT watch the maze runner series. divergent too if ur feelin it

Karianna

Every time they said Gale name I was like "Who? 🤔" Because he was so irrelevant to me in this movie

Christopher Nicholas

The reboots of X Men were not shit, just that Dark Pheonix one

Christopher Nicholas

I was rooting for Gale too Blake lol

ToxicQueen

blake: “the sound whore legend fails to sound whore.” igli: “now he’s just a whore” bruh😭💀

cece

i love divergent, and i hope they react to it (at least the first one)! i also LOVED the shaky camera bc it made things more tense and anxious. it’s like we were in her shoes lol

cece

Oh and just to be clear, you guys didn’t say a word about the shaky cameras.. your reactions were great, as always.. I meant most pretentious snobby reactors do bc it’s almost impossible for some ppl to envision being in other times, when film was different and appreciate how it has gotten better in some ways, or gotten worse in others.. lol

i think the only thing i think they could’ve easily done better is make it a little clearer what career tributes are. quite a lot of people who watch without reading don’t understand why some of the kids are so good/so happy to be there. maybe just a few extra lines about the fact they were trained from a young age maybe

Fran

I always think of that comparison to the books when I see the mutts. I agree that it wouldn’t have translated well on screen.

Sam

Catching Fire is next level and also my favorite of the films, though I have not seen the prequel

What can I say?? For YA fiction, these books were extremely well written. I love the trilogy and still read them from time to time. Won’t get into book/movie comparisons, as I find most of the books superior to most of the films, but maybe I’ll share some trivia about the films instead of getting into all that. Still cry every time Rue dies though, when I watch it and they cue that damn music—because of what she symbolizes and things to come. Lenny Kravitz took the role bc his daughter, Zoe, was a huge fan and she urged him to. She also had a supporting role in another popular dystopian fiction YA series around that time, Divergent. I’m still very very sore about those films, but I digress. Lenny K and Jason Momoa were both married to the same woman. At different times. Jennifer Lawrence was paid 100,000k for the first film. With the success of it and the budget increase for the second film, she was paid 10 million for Catching Fire. That’s some raise and well deserved. A lot of reactors complain about the shaky style camera work in the first film, but I get why it was done. We have a pg-13 rating, but we are dealing with very dark subject matter, so they could not show too much violence or risk the rating so obscuring things was the compromise. Blake is also correct about the lulls in the second half of the film. The books explained and handled the material better but yeah, with the “show don’t tell” aspect of adaptations, it’s quite easy to say that books are better but it’s wrong to assume adaptations are easy. They aren’t. Different animals, different discussion. I said I wasn’t going to do this. A book/film comparison. I never listen to myself. Kind of some scary parallels to what’s going on in the world right now too, so your timing to reacting to this is good, even if we don’t comment on that. I love when art imitates life and helps to impact society in a positive way. Fooking team Peeta, all the way. Igli be cookin’. XO

Glad you actually realized that it was Lenny Kravitz lmao I was so disappointed.

I love Haymitch and the sad thing about him is he's been the only District 12 victor so he's spent over 20 years leading kids to their death. The career tributes (District 1 & 2) are awful but they're put in a messed up situation. Catching Fire is my favorite.

Briana J

I agree. One of the few books to movies that I cannot see them making better and I wouldn’t want them too. Some of her writing is hard to translate to the screen. Like in the books, the mutts were genetically engineered to look like the fallen tributes.

Heidi Louise

one of the few movies to (almost) match up to the books imo. tho if anyone is a reader i still 100% checking them out, you get a lot more context and obviously some things are just unable to be translated to screen. don’t be put off by it being considered YA, it doesn’t feel like it. anyway, excited to see if yall enjoyed!
