Bridgerton 1x6 Full Length

Comments

I’m not inferring Marina’s feelings, she tells Penelope it is love when she shows her their letters. I also don’t think Marina is Penelope’s age, I could be wrong, I don’t think they ever say how old she is, but I’ve always gotten the impression that she was closer to Daphne’s age. Also Penelope was forced to debut a year early, so at the very least Marina is a year older than her. Marina also had no intention of actually participating in the marriage mart when she first arrived. She flirts with the suitors, but she’s waiting for a letter from George that he’ll come back for her. She only starts to actively participate when she receives the forged letter supposedly denying George’s feelings for her. Otherwise she’s biding her time until she’s reunited with him. Again she tells Penelope this directly and then Penelope tells Eloise, pretending it’s about a maid. She says she is waiting for her lover to come back so they can escape to the country where they can be wed. Oh I also forgot, Marina does tell Colin she loves him. When he suggests Gretna Green for their wedding she tells him she loves him and hugs him.

I mean... no not really. He brought her cake and they slept together. I know they had a bond and liked each other but she was 17 when she first arrived so no way I believe a 15/16 year old knew what love was. She was obviously infatuated with Colin when they first were talking. he just became her last option so it prob disappeared. I can't even believe Colin thought it was love when they probably never exchanged those words with each other but that's just his character I guess

I don’t want to say too much since I’ve seen the entire series many times, but Marina knows what love is, she is in love with Sir George and always has been. I think she finds Colin nice and he’s her best option, but she’s still very much in love with Sir George.

About Marina, I think she genuinely believed she would love him or maybe already thought she did because they don't know anything about love and how it would be. It was wrong to do, yes but once someone is presented as your last option and you must be with them or else you and your child will die on the street, it becomes hard to feel something other than determination. It obviously clouded her infatuation she already had for him. But I don't think it ever left. I do think she felt things for him.She saw it as a win-win. Someone she liked and would have a lovely life with. Overall I think she believed she would love him, and couldn't chance her situation my bringing it up to this guy who is obviously a romantic, and ruining what could have been.

I definitely feel for Marina and I don’t fault her for trying to find a husband quickly, my issue is specifically that she lied to Colin about being in love with him. Back then love matches were rare, most marriages were practical. If she had approached Colin, or another suitor, about a practical match and said that eventually they may develop feelings, I wouldn’t have the same issue. Similarly if her feelings were genuine, I would feel badly for Penelope, but would side with Marina. I just think it’s really cruel to pretend to love someone when you don’t so that you can manipulate them to achieve your goals.

yeah I just think people have a hard time looking at this through a 1800s lens instead of a 2024 one. of course it will always be uncomfortable to watch, but there's just so many different aspects to it. consent obviously wasn't a thing, and many women (idk about men?) in the ton probably experienced rape on the daily but no one would bat an eye. I can't see past the fact that Daphne just has no idea what any of this is, just the fact that he was lying to her. so Im conflicted. Simon was right to feel mad as well as Daphne, and Simon was wrong as well as Daphne. that's all I got lol

Colin was definitely a victim. but I can't help but feel for marina. It was just a doomed situation. Even though what she did was wrong, I can imagine what was going through her head if she didn't. like if she were to marry Colin, at least she knew she wouldn't be treated terribly and forced to do things she didn't want to do for the rest of her life. And although Colin was a good one, most of them in this show aren't. She couldn't chance her life like that. by telling him and just trusting him. At least that's how I would feel. Having everyone around you tell you you are a lost cause and nobody wants you, what else would she have done. I think in the beginning, she was really on the path to loving him. and then she was told he was her last option to a free life.

Nobody knows how to properly communicate on this show 🤦🏼‍♀️ lol

While I’m in the camp that what Daphne did was sexual assault, I also don’t think Simon had her full and informed consent any of the times they were together either. Their entire situation is so messy, and like realistically what would Simon have done if Daphne had gotten pregnant?? The pull out method is hardly guaranteed and poor Daphne would think it was a miracle baby. With respect to Marina and Colin, I am fully supportive of Whistledown revealing Marina’s pregnancy. Marina was not only trying to trick Colin into marrying her while she was pregnant with someone else’s child, she manipulated him into believing that she loved him, which is so cruel. She had other options, but as she pointed out, Colin was young, naive and eager, so she knew she could manipulate him effectively. Sure I feel badly for Penelope because she loves Colin, but Colin is the real victim in the situation.

I'm going to leave the longer (lol was autocorrected to "lingerie" at first!!) comments to my more heated friends. But I'm in the camp that the times have left Daphne too naive to understand the gravity of her actions. She's like the emotional equivalent of a three year old who breaks a plate on purpose in anger...you don't blame the kid...they didn't really know better. They were just mad, wanted to throw, and were given access to a breakable object. (In her case, Simon's trust and power over his decisions)

Jessi

So the last sex scene is very much debated. A good chunk of the fandom consider it sexual assault. So that ick feeling you got, you're not alone in it.
