I seem to remember my mom say the woodpeckers like siding and gutters because it had something to do with territory or mating or something. We had one in upstate New York that loved going on the metal getter outside my bedroom window in the summer and just wail on it. Thought it was machine gun fire or something first time I heard it.

2025-08-06 11:28:03 +0000 UTCBirds often succumb to internal bleeding hours after window impacts, even if they appear to be fine. We put window clings up designed to prevent bird strikes and haven't had a problem since! Learning a lot about nature since becoming a homeowner, but man is it depressing sometimes.
