patreon

Update on the page

Hey folks, this could get quite long winded so I’m going to try to make it as brief as possible!

Since the start of the year, but in particular the last few months, (following patreon’s content policy update in December 2023), I have been experiencing a pretty rough art block due to the extreme restrictions of the new policies.  I already removed everything that could have potentially infringed, but having that limit in the back of my mind made it challenging to find the enthusiasm to draw.

The Very Good News is that I recently learned some new information from the policy team that has completely dispelled the anxiety I was experiencing and will let me get back to freely drawing whatever ideas I come up with in a way that doesn’t conflict with the new policies, but some changes in distribution will have to be made.

To quickly summarize– work that runs against the new policies can’t be posted to patreon (obviously), but they also can’t be linked to directly from patreon.  However, so long as there is some sort of intermediary or it’s done off of patreon, you’re golden.  (I will attach a screenshot of the statement patreon gave at the end of this post)

I haven’t decided what method of distribution I’ll be using yet, I may make a poll to see what you guys would prefer.  I feel a lot better about things, but I will also be committing to mirroring this patreon profile on subscribestar, where all of my work would be acceptable by default. (If you already support some people on subscribestar and are interested in swapping, I will announce once my subscribestar page is completely up to date and ready to go).  I may also start offering monthly artpacks on itch.io, as it seems prudent to not rely solely on patreon since each year these restrictions get a bit more restrictive.

Thank you so much for continuing to support me when things have been rough on my end, it truly means a lot to me.

P.S. (It may seem like I’m being super vague about what’s not allowed, and the reason for that is that you’re technically not actually allowed to discuss things against the policy on patreon, but if you’ve been a supporter for a long time, the ideas I’ve had to toss aside are things I have previously been able to post / not really anything that new from me)

I wonder if this is part of the reason a lot of creators seem to be swapping to Discord for reward distribution? Regardless of how you decide to resolve the situation, I hope the results mean you'll be able to kick this creative art block and really get your creative juices flowing again! Take care!

At this point I find Subscribestar a much better alternative.

I'll DM you about it because it's kind of complicated

terrifying !!! and good to know!!! so we can't directly link to elsewhere from patreon, but are we still allowed to link directly to patreon from elsewhere...? because that feels. pretty scarily important to our reach 😰

I think once my subscribestar is up to date, that'll be a better place, simply because their ToS is much less volatile, but hopefully staying on patreon will also be fine for people who don't want to switch

I also really hope this works out. Would you prefer we support you here or subscribestar?

Orudeon

I hope this all works out. I'll follow wherever you end up for all the beautiful art :)

Ugh! I really like your work, and I hope to be able to see it as unencumbered as possible!
