CLE EP 1

In between writing songs I've been working a lot on NOISE and SOUND COLLAGE for soundtracks lately. It's been nice to flip from wailing on the guitar and howling to quieter, meditative work. I've been recording the sounds of my new neighborhood, walking around looking - i'm sure - like a maniac trying capture the late summer ambience here by the Lake. Listening to these "non musical" sounds and then trying to translate them back into music feels like the creative equivalent of strength training and I wanted to share some of it with you all. You can think of it as anti-new age music or a sort of SPOOKY entry to the old environments series. Most of this was recorded live to tape using the Digitone2 and my VCS3 clone and guitar. Light a fire in your back yard and play this as loud as possible for maximum Summoning Effects.

BONUS: I'm also including a PDF of this very fascinating 60s book on how to make music concrete by Terence Dwyer called COMPOSING WITH TAPE RECORDERS. I have no idea how popular it was but I love to imagine 1000s of suburbanites armed with TEACs and this book making wild noise albums for no one but themselves. No tape recorder? You can use these techniques w Audacity (FREE) in the comfort of your own home.

The new Season of the BLOWBACK podcast

Daniel Boeckner

Can’t wait to dig in. What are you soundtracking?

Ben Broderick

Ah Tim you’re right. Patreon sometimes has an issue w bulk uploads where it arbitrarily chooses one track length no matter how long everything is individually. I’ll reupload in a bit

Daniel Boeckner

Thanks, Dan! Is it just me or are the last half of a lot of these silent again? It might actually be most/all of them. Is anyone else having that issue?
