About the deletion of the bunny mod

Hello everyone,

The artist of the bunny outfit artwork, yuzutoro-san, has expressed their discontent on twitter about my NSFW Mod and the circumstance that I didn’t reach out to them in advance.

My view until now has always been that artists inspire each other and create art that is to some degree derivatives of the ideas of others. Precisely that’s why art is always able to evoke and convey a plethora of unique emotions that is different from artist to artist and even from work to work by the same artist. Art is there to inspire other artists. These will then let the original idea grow into a completely different “plant” fostered by the creativity of the second and fertilized by the creativity of the first.

The first may not like what the second made from it, but that is only natural considering the unimaginable amount of directions creativity can grow into. I personally would never find it wrong if someone took my ideas and made something I dislike out of it, because the boundless freedom in the world of creativity and art is exactly what I love about it.

However, just as much as I believe in the importance of this very freedom, I also do believe in the necessity of respecting other artists. Without them, I wouldn’t be here, neither would any of us.

So, it came to me with much despair and guilt when I saw yuzutoro-san’s discomfort for using their ideas. Seeing that I have upset a Japanese artist that I look high up to, it made me feel awful about myself. I felt horrible realizing my ignorance of assuming that other artists would share the same views of what it means to be an artist.

I assured yuzutoro-san that I will never use other people’s designs without their approval every again, and I thanked them for opening my eyes on this issue of mine that I was unaware of. I also offered to delete all 18+ content that involves their design. I felt obliged to hold myself accountable for my own actions.

Thankfully though, yuzutoro-san had mercy on me and respect for the effort I put in. Perhaps because they saw how regretful I was and understanding about their perspective, they only requested me to not commercialize it as well as to not further distribute it on fanbox and advertise the mod in general. They don’t want others to misunderstand that their designs are free material, which I totally understand.

Thus I’ve decided to, according to yuzutoro-san’s wish, delete the twitter post and refrain from posting about it on pixiv or anywhere else and make the fanbox posts private. The full version of the mod will be made free but on my subscribestar account where there is barely any visibility as well as you need to log in to access it. For those of you that already downloaded it or want to download it on subscribestar, I ask you to please not redistribute the mod any further or share screenshots of parts visible in yuzutoro-san’s artwork online and just enjoy these by yourself. I don’t want to cause them any more harm than I already inflicted.

I hope that this is agreeable for all parties involved

I was in a very bad mental state yesterday. I hated myself for causing yuzutoro-san to be upset with me, despite me valuing them as an artist so so much.

But I want to end my sorrow now. This situation taught me a lot. It taught me how to be more compassionate with other artists. It taught me that I must overcome my own fear and shyness of engaging with other artists to ask for approval in the future, despite language barriers.

I’ll see this transgression of mine as a necessary thing that was fated to happen in order for me to live more carefully and compassionately amongst other artists.

So that I’ll never hurt any artist ever again.

I apologize to yuzutoro-san for not asking in advance, and I apologize to my fans for causing you inconvenience this whole situation might have caused.

<33 thank you for your kind words >3< completely unrelated but your profile pic from musouduki is one of my favorite pieces of art ever, especially the variant where kanna got creampied

I commend you for being such a highly understanding and respectul person with very free views on art, but also compassion for others! :) The world would be a fantastic place if we only had people as understanding as you around.

MirrorsLie

Yeah my stance on transformative art is exactly the same as yours. I just assumed that It would be ok with other artists because it made so much sense *to me*, but I was wrong. But even if I do not share those views with yuzutoro-san or other artists, I still want to respect their culture and wishes when it comes to their art, to prevent animosity with other artists and their fans and ideally strive for a friendly relationship with everyone My mental state was already back to normal 2-3 days after it happened but thank you very much for your concern and kind reassurance. I really appreciate the support <3

I understand and respect the choice you made and why, so I'm not going to convince you otherwise. But don't put yourself down too much over this aye. From my perspective, yuzutoro is free to feel however they want but this whole situation was blown out of proportion. Such a bizarre ideal from them, "They don’t want others to misunderstand that their designs are free material" yet they post their work on a public website. To me, it's simple, if you don't want your work to be "inspired from" than don't publish it, at all. If you do, you have to accept that ANYONE is free to modify it as they wish in a transformative way, in your case, make a GI mod. Again, not here to argue your decisions, but just my perspective to maybe help ease your mentals about this whole situation. I think it's fine to respect their choice, but you don't have to feel bad about it. It was a them issue rather than you doing something wrong.

As I wrote above, you can still enjoy the mod if you want. In my profile description is the link to my subscribestar, there you can sign up for the 0$ tier and download the mod. If you have problems with subscribestar for some reason, feel free to dm me and I'll send it to you

awww i try to find the mod long time ago and now its gone T.T

Deth42k

As long as we're moving on from it that's all that matters looking forward to your next masterpiece

Illyaphilia

I would 100% agree with you if it was any person other than yuzutoro-san. Since I used their outfit design as a reference, I consider them not a random individual who’s here just to cause internet drama Don’t get me wrong, If I were in yuzutoto’s shoes, I wouldn’t take issue with it at all, but I just want to acknowledge that this comes from an entirely different culture than mine and personally I would consider it a bit rude to just completely disregard their views just because it differs to my own But regardless, I’m sorry for the trouble this all has caused. I’m sure something like this will not happen again and I’m already focusing on the important stuff again

arakayaya

If you're asking i don't think you should've done anything other than just focused on your next project it's little more than internet drama that if you had ignored i gurantee would have been forgotten within the day but instead it's become this drawn out thing that has resulted in content some of us paid for now being offered for free and sectioned off because of a tweet from someone that made a fan image of a character they don't even own if i'm sounding callous about it i'm sorry it's just frustrating when i'm really only interested in seeing the mods you create and supporting them because i really like what you've created and instead it's being disrupted by internet drama

Illyaphilia

it truly is 😔

arakayaya

thank you 🥺 I'm really glad <3

"...creating a design similar but distinct enough it would not require permission?" yeah that will definitely be the right course of action in the future. For mod ideas like the onesies and japanese kindergartener outfits its very easy fortunately. With more specific design ideas, I have to just ask for permission as you said and scrap the idea if necessary. "most would take issue with the monetization aspect" It does seem that way, yeah. I'm curious to see how many of them will say yes and how many will say no. If it turns out that I ask 10 and get declined 10 times, I'll just give up on the idea of making mods solely based on one artists' design I guess

arakayaya

Yeah totally agree. It is true that yuzutoro-san doesn't have any r18 art as far as I can see, but in my brain I kinda made the conclusion that some of the art is "ecchi enough" that they had to be ok with it xD idk maybe i'm just to too rotten I'm already feeling much better! thank you for the encouraging words! I'm ready to move on.

arakayaya

As you could see from this situation, I am very willing and open to hear others out, learn more about their perspectives and change my actions accordingly if needed. If you just say you don't agree, It doesn't give me much to work with other than the information that you disagree with something that I did and the assumption that I could have navigated the situation better. Does that kinda make sense? My main goal after seeing yuzutoro-san's tweet was to respect their wishes, learn from it and let you still enjoy the mod. What do you think I could have done better?

arakayaya

Yeah it sucks, but it felt like the right thing to do to me. I'm just glad you all can still enjoy the mod

arakayaya

<3 cute and sexy it needs to be! 😭

arakayaya

I think we can’t really compare Yuzutoro-san with Hoyoverse Hoyoverse actively encourages artists to make art with their IP (Letting artists make money from it, making a lot of Fanart competitions with prices, making their music not copyrighted, etc). This is very smart because they give artists a lot of freedom, leading to a lot of free advertising for their game. If I were hoyoverse ceo or whatever, I would do the same thing. I am happy to see others make content with my work (assuming with credit) because it IS free advertising. (also I like seeing it ^^) I wrongly assumed that other artists would feel the same way. (Aka. This situation right here, where I made derivative art from their design and crediting it, sending my audience over to them.) But unfortunately, I was mistaken and they were not ok with it. I’m not saying that I agree or understand this way of thinking from yuzutoro-san, but I want to respect it

arakayaya

Luckily my premonition was correct. I'm happy to collaborate on designs if you'd like.

Comelyfay

Did Yuzutoro ask Hoyoverse for permission to use their characters such as Nahida for their own artwork? Would they delete all of their artwork if Hoyoverse asked them to not use those characters for inspiration? You can do whatever you want and I won't say anymore on the subject because I don't want to cause trouble. Love your stuff and wish you luck in the future.

Brobat

Author, thank you for your hard work~ Here’s looking forward to your next cute and sexy outfit!

阿爾緹

It sucks cause it was a super lovely mod but I'm glad you respected their wishes and took it down <3 much love and I can't wait to see what you have next

silverr

Cant say i exactly agree with you or the people in these comments but what's done is done best to just look forwaed to the next mod

Illyaphilia

It is also important to be aware of context regarding R18. If the inspirational artist does does not appear to be ok with NSFW then it is important to respect that. It is always important to research this. Please don't let this get you down though, mistakes happen. You've handled it well, learned the lesson and taken the right steps to make amends.

Kogtof

It's an unfortunate occurrence but I do believe this is the most amicable and reasonable resolution. Respecting the wishes of artists regarding use of their creations is important. If I may - for the future, not this mod - perhaps instead of the inspiration resulting in the outfit being nearly the same in design you could instead focus on creating a design similar but distinct enough it would not require permission? Of course sometimes it's too difficult to iterate on it, in which case asking for permission is the way to go. However, from what I've seen of the general policies Japanese artists tend to have, most would take issue with the monetization aspect; were they distributed freely the artists would likely be more amenable. It's certainly a conundrum and hopefully you'll be able to figure something out.

Lupo

Its sad but i understand to respect the other art works. It's a real shame that you had trouble and felt bad about it. But as a fan of your art. I will continue to support you for your good work. And I hope that you won't have any more problems with other artists in the future. Stay the way you are!!! I will keep the Bunny Mod just for me use and guard it like a treasure. <3

Lolaicasan

That's a shame!
