November Stories

Hey all, I hope you are keeping safe.

Things have been a bit hectic around here. I found a tiny cat stuck under the hood of my car. It took me a whole morning to manage to get him out. The poor fluffy was so scared and cold. Aside from that, he was completely healthy, fortunately. After trying to find his owner with no luck, I ended up adopting the little fluff ball. So, aside from my new puppy, who is four months old, I now have a tiny kitty who the vet guesses is just shy of two months. Tommy, my three-year-old cat, was a bit on the fence about all these new additions to the family. However, Joka, the puppy, and Stormy—found him on a stormy day hence the name; super original, I know—the kitty, have now won him over.

And then, as if the new kitty wasn't excitement enough, my laptop showed me the dreaded blue screen of death. I tried to save it, but it was no use. Had to take it to the store where they told me my hard drive died and it would take about a month to get my laptop fixed. So, with no laptop in sight and no means to buy a new one on the spot I adventured into laptopnapping.

I never envisioned a future in a criminal career—all that glamour just wasn’t something that called to me—but desperate times call for desperate measures. I lay in wait until the dark of twilight shrouded my target. Then, I sneaked into my brother's room and slinked away with his laptop while keeping my cackling inward so as not to arouse suspicion. I left a cupcake in the laptop’s place—every great criminal signs their work; at least that’s what every tv show told me.

It took him two days to notice it missing—though he munched the cupcake as soon as he saw it. I may have stumbled onto the most effective forensic countermeasure in existence: if the evidence is eaten then there’s no evidence, right?

Still, he noticed the missing laptop. After a long and grueling investigation, he found me. There was no denying I was the culprit; I was huddled under a thick blanket with the proof sitting on my lap.

I was caught.

I knew it.

He knew it.

There was no escape.

Remember, I was desperate.

I shoved my last cupcake under his nose.

He glared at me and for a moment I was sure he wouldn’t give in.

I shouldn’t have underestimated the power of chocolate.

We came to an understanding. One laptop in exchange for cupcakes for as long as I use it. Not a bad trade-off.

Anyhow, all this to say I’ve had a busy couple of weeks.

Now, let us get to what you’re here for.

This month I’ll be posting Sleep, Child, and Children of Apocalypse.

Sleep, Child

Mahana, Thonis-Heracleion, Roanoke, and Fortland all had one thing in common. As a child, Daniel had set things in motion that would lead to him finding out what. Sometimes, ignorance truly is bliss.

Children of Apocalypse

Ava was told that the world used to be different. She used to sit around the fire pit with the other children and listen to the adults talk about how things were before they came. She sat and listened and feared for what was to come.

Then, one day, she stood up and ran. She ran and ran and ran.

Ava was a child of Apocalypse, and she would no longer sit and wait for the inevitable.
