Howdy friends,
Hope everyone is doing well!
So the big news as you've probably seen is the Capcom video is finished and out to the world, it took roughly 4 months and was a very exhausting experience but I think it came out about as good as I could hope!
We did miss one game though, Syndey 2000! An olympic game from Eidos but published by Capcom in Japan. It always sucks to miss out on a game, but since it's not "really" a Capcom game I can live with it! 80/81
Something I can't live with, however, is that I somehow manage to miss a bunch of editing errors in the video, some more noticeable than others.
-B-Roll template appearing over the Tronn Bonne footage
-Some footage blending during the Rockman pocket-station segment that looks really awkward (the same thing happened in the Squaresoft video with some Dragon Quest 7 footage randomly appearing during the FF9 segment)
-Me calling Morrigan Morgana three times for some reason (seriously I don't know how I didn't cop this issue)
Now here's the thing, one issue I can live with. Two issues, sucks but it is what it is, but three issues? Nah that's just shoddy.
Now the reason this happened TLDR is that I was rushing to get this video complete.
The long answer, basically I had to head to a friend's wedding in Italy for a few days and I was hoping to get the video finished and off my mind before I went. And while I originally thought I'd be finished long before this event, I had severely underestimated the amount of additional footage that I'd need to capture for this video and it went on much longer than expected, leading me to finish the video the day before I was flying out! Plus keep in mind a video of this length takes roughly 12 hours to render, so if it was messed up that was it and I would have to wait until I got back to tidy it up and publish it and delaying myself even further.
This resulted in me watching the video at 2x speed while I was on the plane to Italy and for whatever reason I skipped over a part that I was 100% sure was ok because I had watched it multiple times before (spoiler it was not) essentially there's a weird quirk in Vegas where sometimes videos and clips can be catapulted down the timeline and those clips just merge into places they shouldn't be, and with a video 6 hours in length, spotting them is harder than you'd think. So not only did I miss them when checking the footage in Vegas, I also missed them on my watch through which is just poor form from me.
Now realistically a few seconds of errors in a 6-hour video doesn't really dilute the quality much or at all in most people's eyes, in fact I think errors are sometimes nice because you get to see everybody is human and makes mistakes, but this amount of silly errors in something I worked so hard to get perfect over the past few months is gonna eat away at my soul and kinda taint the video in my eyes, so what I'm choosing to do is delist the current version and upload a new fixed version in the coming day or so.
I don't really care much about views/algorithms/revenue etc. (I do care about the comments, but since it's delisted they'll all still be there) What I care about most is having the best possible version of that video out there since it should hopefully be on the platform for years to come or at least as long as YouTube exists anyway (Ps. please feel free to download and back up my videos if you want, I support it) So 5 days of views isn't much to lose in the grand schemes of things, and personally it'll help me sleep better at night, so sometimes you gotta cut your losses and just do what makes the most sense to you.
So the moral of the story is NEVER RUSH. Take as long as you need, and keep in mind nobody was pressuring me to release this ASAP, this was all pressure I manifested for myself, and as you can see it can result in causing bigger problems in the long run!
I will still keep the old video accessible in a roundabout way for posterity, by linking it in a community note which will have a much shorter version of the explanation above, so if you ever want to view it for whatever reason you still can, you just need to check my community notes on Youtube. (The video will also now be labeled EX Edition as a fun little nod)
Other than that, I had a really lovely and relaxing time away in sunny rural Italy where I got incredibly sunburnt. ate way too much food, and drank way too much wine, but hey when you're at an Italian wedding, you gotta celebrate like the Italians do (seriously 12 courses of food I thought I was going to explode)
As for future plans, I'm going to take a short break before returning to Senor Wheel for Obscure Vol.16 and then maybe we can see about finally making that Fear Effect 2 video I promised a while back, seems to be a good time to do it since the remaster of 1 is coming in the future! We'll see when we get there sure.
Also as promised, I will be posting all current Club PlayStation mixes in MP3 form in a post shortly after this, so feel free to download em and play em on your MP3 players or whatever other cool musical devices from the future you like! Starting now, any new ones I post on YouTube will also appear here on Patreon around the same time, so hopefully you find some use out of em!
As always thanks for your support and patience, particularly during these longer videos, they are surprisingly intense but rewarding experiences and it's why I care so much about getting them as perfect as I can. And the support here on Patreon, YouTube, Twitter, or wherever makes it a whole lot more manageable so, much love to you all!
Take care and I'll chat to you all again soon.
Much love,
Sean
(Ps. Enjoy the cat pictures)
