Upcoming Changes to the SV Patreon
Added 2020-02-02 21:41:06 +0000 UTCHello all!
I hope your January was an excellent start to the 20's. As I did a little bit over a year ago, I'm thinking of ways to improve the Patreon. I have a few ideas that I'd like to share with you to get your feedback on them, as well as to hear any ideas you might have.
First, the changes to the tier system.
At the $1 a month pledge, you will get you the current monthly exclusive.
At the $3 a month pledge, you will get the current monthly exclusive, access to the last 3 months of exclusives, and you'll get to vote on what next month's exclusive will be.
At the $5 a month pledge, you will get you will get the current monthly exclusive, access to the last 6 months of exclusives, you'll get to vote on what next month's exclusive will be, and you'll get to put a nomination on the ballot for the monthly exclusive.
At the $10 a month pledge, you will get you will get the current monthly exclusive, access to the last 12 months of exclusives, you'll get to vote on what next month's exclusive will be, and you'll get to put a nomination on the ballot for the monthly exclusive.
I'm also considering adding additional content in the form of regular campaign setting updates to backers at the $5 and $10 level. What I'm interested in hearing from all of you is whether you'd be more interested in smaller campaign settings or one large campaign setting. If we go with the smaller campaign settings, there would be an update with campaign material each month and every three or four months it would be compiled together as the completed setting guide. If we did one big campaign setting, I guess it would just go on indefinitely? I'd be focusing on my Nevermore setting if all of you are more interested in the big single setting.
Finally, I plan to clean up some of the old posts. Many of them are ballot submissions and the ballots themselves and I think that's causing the Patreon to be quite cluttered and hard to navigate for newcomers. I've hesitated in doing that so far because there are some very kind / fun comments on some of those posts but I do think it's for the best in the long run to clean it up.
Please, as always, share your honest feedback with me on these proposed changes and feel free to make any other suggestions about how I might improve your experience as a patron.
Thanks,
Benjamin

I'm a newer pledger but I'm definitely here for the longer haul. I can understand the system and it is smart, if a bit "Hmm" as in controversial. Might I suggest putting a rotation of older content for the future to rotate, it is smarter business practice and protects you longer term and still benefits your future patreon supporters. It give you a chance to share older work, and protect yourself.

2020-02-07 04:44:59 +0000 UTCThose are the primary differences but I do bring the topic up to get feedback on how that feels for patrons. The idea with the change to the $1 pledge isn't to take anything away from people who've got long term ongoing pledges, it's to prevent new pledgers from putting down a buck, getting 13+ backer exclusives, and then unpledging.

2020-02-07 04:44:12 +0000 UTCI'm always in favor of content creators protecting themselves and the like -- so I think this is definitely a safe way to change your current system. I'm not sure how off hand your rewards go back, but eventually having a way to say access 24 month back content, etc, for new people when there is that much content, might be good for those who want a way to do that, but still making sure they pay for that.

2020-02-07 00:52:43 +0000 UTCOther than apparently removing access to old posts and adding setting material for higher level patrons, what’s the difference? If I’m a lower level patron, all that changes is I can’t go back and look at stuff from the past?
