Santa's Sleigh Phone Stand

Hey everyone!

Introducing the Santa's Sleigh Phone Stand! All of the parts to this design print completely support-free, and there is no need for glue or external hardware to assemble! The Sleigh features a simple gear train for adjusting the angle of your device. Just twist the knob in the back to adjust!

Below you will find I have attached a Zip file that has the print instructions and all of the print files. I've included some pre-sliced and pre-colored .3mfs along with the files this time. I also updated the format for the print instructions. Hopefully making assembly instructions like this moving forward will be helpful!

The files are also all available in the Google Drive Archives.

Quick Backstory:

I started this design weeks ago with every intention of getting it released to you much earlier on in the Holiday season. What was originally going to be a fairly simple phone stand ended up being a much bigger challenge than I anticipated. Mainly because when I thought the design was "finished," I decided I wanted to add some movement. I've never designed printable gears before, and it took a loooooot more prototyping and testing than I expected.

In general, I want to start adding more motion and interesting mechanisms to my designs. Creating this model was great step in that direction and I look forward to using what I've learned on future models!

As always thank you all very much for the support, I hope you enjoy the design!

That makes me glad to hear! After soooooo many iterations it’s easy to start doubting certain decisions, haha.

The model was a big hit with my family (home for the holidays) and looks great!

It is intentional, for the most part. Originally there was a wider range, but it was easy for the phone to flop forwards and backwards. I found limiting the range helped minimize this. If I had more time I might do some more iterations, but this is after quite a few dozen iterations and I wanted to get it out before the holidays. From here I plan to create a non-holiday themed phone mount with the same basic ideas, but much better and with a wider range of motion!

Just printed and it looks great! Is the very limited range of motion from that notch in the seat intentional? It feels like it should tilt back more, but the notch causes it to bind.

I’m so glad you like it! It’s definitely sparked some ideas for more designs like it, and I look forward to getting better at designing gears and moving parts. You’ll notice the motion isn’t huge on this one (partly because it doesn’t need it), but the whole gear situation was a huge learning lesson and I know I can do better!

This came out awesome Jacob! If I wasn’t so damn busy printing your annoying boxes I would totally print this today. Thank you
