Jobst v. Completionist: VG Law Review Ep. 2

The "Short" law review episode is finally here! Just in time for New Year's Eve.

Please enjoy this last Moon Channel episode of the year, actually released early this time, unlike usual, for Patrons.

I'll be hosting a premier of this episode later, well, today, I suppose, given the time. I cordially invite all of you to join in and ask questions as we watch the episode together!

I understand that this is a bit of a prickly issue, but I do think we've approached it with the requisite nuance. If there's something I've missed, maybe another Law Review episode will be warranted: we'll see!

In the meantime, please enjoy the most law heavy video I think I've yet produced. If this doesn't put you to sleep tonight, nothing will.

Jobst v. Completionist: VG Law Review Ep. 2

Comments

Awesome video once again! I actually was totally unaware of the allegations, but I really enjoyed your analysis and even the very long tax code discussion lol. I definitely think the Completionist made errors in communication, I think his examples when promoting the charity were unintentionally misleading, making people think they were actively donating to other charities or financially working with the various organizations named, but that's certainly not a crime and theres a fair argument in communications to not get into the details when you're basically doing a press and fundraising event. However the whole drama stinks of sharks looking for blood in the water. My video recommendations are often "Take Downs" of various other creators, which always feel... gross. Some are fair, like covering 8 Passengers or the new Hbomb video, but a large majority of coat tail riders trying to put out a video as quickly as possible with much less research or expertise. Oof.

I've never been afraid to approach controversial topics, on Moon Channel. We've talked about gender, religion, and politics, and for the most part the comments and engagement has been quite civil! It would be amusing to me if YouTube drama, it turns out, is the most toxic of all. I don't know what else Jobst or Jirard have worked on, and so my context outside of this specific matter is limited. I hope I haven't accidentally stepped on a hornet's nest.

One reason I love this channel is because the internet “consensus” on matters like this drive me nuts. Not to say “I always knew he was innocent” or something, I’m not particularly invested in this, but I did watch both Karl and Jirard at the time of the initial accusations, and watching as Twitter and YouTube destroyed a career over accusations that, while I always felt them to be probably true were certainly unfairly framed with malicious intent, made me unreasonably angry. I learned via this whole thing that reading comments on YouTube is not always the best idea lol. In the end I really don’t feel like Karl was engaging in intentional character assassination. He has spent his career dealing with S-tier jerks like Billy Mitchell and I can see why that would color his perception. But Jirard essentially losing everything (including his ability to do any charity work without being chastised) over this is really rough. Hope you don’t go too deep into your comment section when this comes out, I suspect a lot of people will not appreciate this.
