Raw Beskar Ingot (Mandolorian)

Hey everyone!

Here is my attempt at the Raw Beskar Ingot from The Mandolorian!  I tried to get the surface pattern close to show accuracy, although I'm aware it's not exactly the same!  Definitely not an easy technique to model (or at least how I did it), but maybe I can re-visit this in the future and try to improve it!

I printed this model in both resin and FDM, so you shouldn't have any issues.  The photos above are from the resin model because as expected, the resin model looked much better after post-processing.

I did do some experimenting with the post-processing to try and get the best-looking Beskar, with both the FDM and resin models, here's what I did:

Resin (Pictured Above, Best in my opinion):

- Printed in Clear Green Elegoo Water Washable Resin

- Two coats of black spray paint after wash and cure

- 1 silver wash with Turbo Dork Silver Fox acryllic paint (pictured above).  I did not water down the paint, nor did I wipe after painting.  It just happened to look good with one coat on top of the black spray paint.

FDM:

- I did some light sanding with 80 grit sandpaper, then worked up to 220.

- One coat of black spray paint

- Silver rub n' buff (This may have been a mistake, it was hard to keep the silver out of the crevices and the whole thing ended up too shiny)

- One coat of Turbo Dork Silver Fox mixed with Black Acrylic Paint (to "weather" after the silver rub n buff)

I probably could have done a better job painting, but i'm pretty happy with it!  I'd love to see how you finish yours if you end up printing it!

Thank you man! It was actually kind of tedious in Fusion, haha, and I am eventually gonna re-do it because I kinda cheated (a little). I did an emboss on the front face, then hand drew the patterns on all the sides, the mirrors the whole thing to create the front and back. You can kiiiiiinda see the seam on the sides, which is why I wanna redo it. I want to experiment with using displacement maps in Blender, might turn out better but we’ll see!

Awesome work! I'm curious how you got the grooves to wrap around so well. I attempted to make this in F360 but I didn't like how the grooves wrapped around the edges.
