ANNOUNCING THREE NEW TITLES + PATREON PROGRESS UPDATES!

Hey, everyone! Bryce and Scott here with something a little different. This is going to be a little long, so bear with me, because we’ve got a lot we want to say.

For a long time (our entire careers, really) our philosophy has been to keep our work to ourselves until it is finished. What I mean is that we wouldn’t ever really talk about the stories we are working on until it was time for them to come out. The reason for this is simple—we hated the idea of announcing something that might turn into something entirely different by the time it is done. We’ve talked at length about the fact that Kindred Heavens started as one book and is now five, and even back when we didn’t have any fans but our parents, we were always running a tight-ship, keeping our comics to ourselves until they were perfect.

But as time has gone on, we feel that doing this has left a bit of a disconnect be us and you, the fans. We talk a lot about making things but aside from Kindred Heavens you guys don’t know what those things are. So, in an effort to be more transparent, we are going to start posting updates on the 1st of every month on Patreon. In these updates, we will discuss our progress on current projects and any challenges or interesting things happening with them. For example, earlier this month we had to go through and revise a section of Kindred Heavens Book Three. In the Patreon update for this month, we’ll be going into (non-spoilery) detail about why we made those revisions. Basically, the plan is to keep you all clued in on what is happening, while also giving you a look at the process.

We have a couple projects to announce. But before doing that, we’ve got one more thing we want to talk about, because it’s a change in our formula that will likely affect all books (with the exception of Kindred Heavens) going forward. Traditionally, our books have been over 100 pages. Well, in the future, we plan for most books to exactly 64 pages. Our reasoning for this is simple—it lets us put out more content more consistently. Instead of one book a year, this allows us to put out three. As I said, Kindred Heavens books will continue to be around 100 pages, but everything else announced here will follow the new 64 pages style.

WITHOUT FURTHER ADO, IT’S TIME TO TALK ABOUT THE PROJECTS WE ARE WORKING ON!

We are currently working on four projects.

KINDRED HEAVENS (specifically Book Three)

CICI THE FOREST CRITTER with SHADIA AMIN

HUNTER with LONNIE GARCIA

THE GOOD BAD GUYS (tentative name)

CICI THE FOREST CRITTER

Written by BRYCE BEAL and SCOTT MALIN, illustrated by SHADIA AMIN

Forest Critters are fur-covered, shoe-sized creatures who dwell in the forest and love all things sweet–berries, jams, and most of all, ice cream.

That is why when the nearby human king announces that, at his wedding, he will be serving the legendary Royal Ice Cream, they decide to steal this delicacy all for themselves! Only problem? There is nothing a human hates more than a Critter.

Thankfully the Critters have a secret weapon. A little girl with no fur and pasty skin, who is taller than a stack of shoes and has fingers and toes instead of paws and claws…

…a human girl they’ve raised as one of their own–CICI.

CICI THE FOREST CRITTER is a series about discovering that sometimes family doesn’t know best. It is a tale of following your heart that has been written, and rewritten, across many years. Its first draft was written all the way back in 2018! Shadia Amin has been attached to the project from the very start, bringing charm and childish delight to it.

CURRENT PROGRESS: Initial drafts written for all books. Book One fully written.

PROJECTED RELEASE: Book One, 2025.

HUNTER

Written by BRYCE BEAL and SCOTT MALIN, illustrated by LONNIE GARCIA

Something terrible has befallen Scudder Mountain…

Black sludge pours down from the peak, gobbling up everything in its path. The trees wither. The flowers fall into dust. The poor animals grow weaker by the day…

Theodore Munson, the greatest hunter of all time, has vowed to kill the beast responsible for this sickness. People from all over have gathered to witness this historical event.

…and one of them, a young girl named Dorothy Jones, plans to stop him.

HUNTER is a two-book series we wrote last year, mostly inspired by our newfound love of hiking, parks, and forests. It is a tale of the struggle between mankind and nature. The artwork is being done by Lonnie Garcia, whose unique style, especially his coloring, brings life to Scudder Mountain’s tragedy in a beautiful way.

CURRENT PROGRESS: Both books are fully written. Book One is being illustrated currently.

PROJECTED RELEASE: Book One, 2025.

THE GOOD BAD GUYS

Written by BRYCE BEAL and SCOTT MALIN, illustrated by SCOTT MALIN

In a far-away land reminiscent of the Roaring Twenties, Crosea is the capital of all things degenerate.  Here, those who do the crime do not pay the time–they just get paid.

Gangsters” are the celebrities of this topsy-turvy world and are ranked by the bounties on their heads. The bigger your bounty, the better your name.

But there can only be one PUBLIC ENEMY #1, and though Leo La’Chant hasn’t completed even a single heist, he dreams one day it will be him.

THE GOOD BAD GUYS is our most recently started series, and so we don’t have too much to say about it yet. It is a shonen inspired heavily by the manga we read growing up.

CURRENT PROGRESS: Books One and Two fully written.

PROJECTED RELEASE: TBA.

As always, we appreciate everyone’s support. We are very excited for the future, excited to bring these books and many more to you all.

If you’d like more detailed updates on the progress of these projects, check out this month's Patreon update!
