October 2023 Production Update

As you probably already know, I’m currently working on two 50 Ways to Die in Minecraft videos, (one about RL Craft and one about Create+). I was originally planning on getting them both done so that I could release them in late November/early December this year, but that doesn’t seem likely any more. Last month, despite being behind schedule by only 3 clips (on average, just a little more than one day by the standard I’d kept up to that point), I predicted that I was likely to fall behind schedule by a much greater amount because the next clips I had lined up to produce seemed like much bigger time sinks.

It turned out that I was right. As I write this, I am currently 43 clips behind the point I’d planned to be at by the end of September.  How did this happen? After the first half of the month, I was only behind schedule by about 10 clips (less than one week by August’s standard), which didn’t seem so bad. But then, just like what happened with Part 15, one of the clips took much longer to complete than I thought it would. Two weeks ago, I reached a clip that’s taken so long to finish that I’m still only ALMOST done with it now. This isn’t as bad as what happened with Part 15, since the clip that was holding up production then took me 32 weeks to finish rather than just 2, but it is enough that I don’t think I’m going to reach my November/December deadline, so it looks like I’m going to have to wait until June 2024 to release these next two videos. Of course, you Patrons will get to see them as soon as they’re done, but, once again, the rest of my viewers are going to have to wait quite an entire year before getting any real new content and that has me worried.

At first glance, pushing back the release to June might make 2023 look like a repeat of 2022, but there’s a crucial difference. In 2022, not only did I release just one 50 Ways video after an entire year of no new content, but I also hadn’t made any progress on 2023’s videos by the end of the year. On the other hand, if my RL Craft and Create+ videos get pushed back to 2024, I will have, once again, only released one new 50 Ways video for a whole year, but unlike 2022, I will have not only made progress on my 2024 videos, I will probably be almost done with them, which means that I’ll have a whole lot of extra time to work on something else. Maybe I’ll make a 3rd 50 Ways video to release alongside the Create+ and RL Craft videos. Maybe I’ll take another stab at the Jake Pit again. Maybe I’ll try something new altogether. I haven’t decided yet.

In the meantime, I’m going to continue working on clips for the Create+ 50 Ways video.
