Taking Creative Control
Added 2022-09-28 00:00:25 +0000 UTCEvery journey starts with the first step, they say. I won't bore you with platitudes, so I'll just jump right in. This Tuesday update is about creative control. My videos that I currently create belong, in part, to someone else. That's because much of the music I use isn't my own. This is the first step in taking back what is mine!
I'm no stranger to music. I credit my brother with teaching me how to sing. He was a young musician/creative in need of back up vocals and he recruited me, his 5 year old sister. I sang with him every time I had the chance. He always encouraged me to find my own voice and words. Despite his efforts, to this day, I struggle with saying what is in my heart.
I joined choir once it was available to me in middle school. I kept with it through high school, and by college, I could site read. I had a wide vocal range as a mezzo soprano. An impressive feat, if only I'd maintained it! That ability is lost to time and lack of practice.
It's time to be the sole creator in the art I make. I humbly present to you my first effort at making music. It isn't impressive yet, but it has to begin somewhere. This process of being an artist, with success and failure and everything in between, is best shared with those who support and appreciate my work. Thank you so much for being here!
