A Tribute to Pinecones

Happy Sunday!

As a kid, I took a great amount of satisfaction gathering things together. Rocks, pieces of aged glass from under the sagebrush (the oldest pieces of glass were purple),  seed pods. Pinecones were especially fun. I had no purpose or use for them, but I would gather them all the same. My favorites were the fresh ones in the autumn. I could tell them from the older cones by their color. The new pinecones are a lovely golden brown, the older they are, the more gray they get.

Perhaps my collections of rocks, glass bits, and pinecones were simply an effort in achieving order. I recently heard the term "knolling", which is basically the process of grouping like objects.

"Always be Knolling", advises artist Tom Sachs. I like that.

If you're not familiar with the work of Tom Sachs, I highly recommend watching 10 Bullets Manifesto, which is available to watch on YouTube. There's an in depth explanation on why knolling is important, useful, and necessary in his studio.
