Adios, mi Sueno (Goodbye, my Dream)

As I've continued on my work for my current collection, "They Call me Coyote", I've delved into my history, heritage, beliefs, and other aspects of life. I've listened to many songs of the Southwest. Some of which were preserved by Jenny Vincent. A woman that sat at my grandmother's kitchen table visiting her neighbors, and played songs for local school children. Songs that she hoped to preserve, songs of a culture that she didn't originate from, but loved and appreciated none the less.

"Adios, mi Sueno" didn't originate in New Mexico. According to Jenny's research, it originated in Arizona. But, I remember it all the same. It wasn't uncommon for me to have heard it at funerals, undoubtedly because of Jenny's influence.

I met with a talented musician last weekend, and recorded a new version. The audio you hear is my first attempt at breathing new life into Hispanic Folk Music of the Southwest. Perhaps carrying a song a little further into the future.

I was nervous and shaky. I haven't sung a song out loud with any intention for a decade or more. The accompanying imagery is old footage, mostly shot in New Mexico a year ago. It likely isn't the last attempt I'll make at this specific song. My hope is to improve my voice, and gain a bit more confidence.

You being here means so much to me! It gives me a vote of confidence that I may not always give myself. In this space (even though it exists virtually), you get glimpses of my successes and failures, and all the in-betweens. Thank you for being here!
