Hey everyone!
A real special and beefy BTS post today! Please have a look through the art-only pages above! This story was meant to be a nice break from my usual comics, so I wanted to take the chance to experiment and approach my colours really differently than I always do.
When a story is really rooted in a particular mood or a particular place, those roots inform the lighting which enable me to really pop off with the shading. This story's more character-centric and it doesn't even really have a long shot (one that shows the physical setting), so I was kinda struggling with the lighting. Plus, after posting some teasers online, I felt this urge to really preserve and highlight the already-evocative lineart!
Immediately my mind went to my biggest art influence: Jiraiya! He's been a huge figure in the (what is more widely known in the west as) bara genre for a long time now, and his style has such signature polish and humour to it that always make me fall in love with drawing! It makes me want to keep getting better so one day I can reach his caliber of character cartooning! I'm sure you can see bits and pieces that I've picked up that inspire the way I draw now.
