Behind the Scenes: A Day in the Life of an Erotic Artist

Just by happenstance I noticed that my February comic for 2022 was going to go up on Hourly Comics Day, so I pitched that idea to Matthew: what if I just did an hourly comic?

Matthew gave me the greenlight right away!

So I cheated a little bit. It takes me about 3 weeks to make an OJST comic from pitch to completion, so I had to pick a day to write about at the beginning of January instead of it being about February 1st. I picked a day that was pretty fulfilling in terms of working on erotic comics, but that also had something interesting enough in the evening to make for a good reading experience. I didn’t need to exaggerate anything either which was nice, this was just a regular day for me complete with mishaps and struggling to draw a dick. Yes, I do keep a dildo by my desk when drawing porn.

At the time I was working on a pretty indulgent 8 page fancomic with Michelle called “On The Job”. We’ve been doing quite a lot of short stories since we finished our long-form comic “Dead City”, and we really want to experiment on shorter comics before diving in to something big again. It’s been really nice to test the waters, see what sticks, and try out a bunch of brushes now that I’ve moved over to doing comics digitally. About ¾ of the way through “On The Job” I started disliking how I was toning it and was getting frustrated, but I stuck with it and finished the dang thing so I could just move on to the next comic with a fresh set of tools instead! I am proud of that comic still, so I’ll include some good good panels from it for y’all.
